Sounds like synchronizers, but they should be new with the rebuild. Might be clutch adjustment. I'd take it back to whoever did the work.

I had the same problem in my 88 gt, only with 3rd gear and it turned out to be a bad syncro. I had just had the tranny rebuilt and took it back and they fixed the problem, but like rev said, it may be as simple as a bad clutch adjustment.

It has a newer centerforce clutch and I just put in a summit adjustable clutch quadrant becuase the mechanic said the old cable was worn out. I've got the cable adjusted further than it should be and I've still got problems. My initial thought was that it was the syncros but they should be new with the tranny rebuild. I don't know if its related or not but I also have a bad vibration in the drivetrain above 55 MPH. It doesn't matter what gear im in though.

The vibration is most likely u-joints. Sounds more and more like snchros for the grind though.

If it is just doing it in one gear it is probably a bad syncro.

Right on, just one gear, bad syncro. I'd take it to whoever built it and have them fix it, a fluid change helped my T5 temporarily. There might be some crap built up in the fluid that's making the syncro not spin right. But then again, if it was just rebuilt, they would have put new fluid in. See if you can somehow convince the shop who did it that you screwed up your rear gears or drivetrain because of it and that they owe you money or you'll sue them. J/K Good luck with that T5.
