Question premature distrubuter gear wear

Is there a cure to premature distrubuter gear wear the last cam i had a comp cam 292 magnum in my 351 w the gears went to hell. Is this not getting enough oil? How can it be fixed to not happen again? This was last years motor and have a new one built for this year.

I have heard about incompatibility problems with the different metals on the cam drive and dist. drive. Some dist. gears are steel and some are brass/bronze?. This can cause premature wear.

Somone else might be able to fill you in further. Check into that though.

Let me guess high vol. pump?Get gear proper depth, and run a thinner synthetic oil. This fixed mine. If still have prob. make hole in oil plug. The problem is gear deflect away so this should.Check cam close for wear..Bronze wear out but safes cam.Car runs bad with a little wear huh?

If it's a flat tappet cam then you need a cast iron gear. If it's a roller you need a steel one. Bronze gears work but wear out after about 10,000 miles and need to be replaced. If you've got the right type of gear then I'd suggest the oil pump thing that Eddy351 mentioned. If you have a roller cam and iron distributor gear, check your oil for metal shavings.

I agree with the previous posts. I had a bronze on my 347 and after about 3000 miles it chewed. On the freeway, at about 3500 RPM. It sounded like a bomb went off. My buddy was following me and said it looked and sounded like I was shooting artilery through the exhaust.
Roller cam use steel gear (bronze if you plan on replacing it OFTEN)
