Post One more cam question.....

I was wondering if the crane 2030 compucam would be a good cam for this setup. I have 3:73's, five-speed, headers, underdrive pullies, and full exhaust work. The motor is stock, but will be changed in the future. I just have a great deal on this cam with installation also. So I'd like to do it now. What kind of idle can I expect, and might I see some horsepower improvement in the low end or top end. If you also know much about the b-cam, could you give me the same feedback. Horsepower isn't really a big deal for me right now, i'm just looking for a dirty idle and i was wondering if this cam would do it for me. Thanks

If you want a rough idle then all you have to do is look at the lobe seperation on the cam specs. The lower the # the rougher the idle will be. Be careful....bigger cam does not always mean more performance.
If your engine is stock then I wouldn't go too much bigger on the cam.

Just for the sake of asking, have you checked the info on Crane's site www.cranecams.com
kind of hard to find what you're looking for but poke arounnd - you'll find operating characteristics and rpm range listed. I would think it would be a decent cam without going overboard.

I don't know if you can swing a similar deal on a Crane 2031 and set of 1.7 RR's, but the 2031 is supposed to have a lumpier idle and behaves almost the same as a 2030 w/1.6 ratio rockers. If price is the deciding factor though you might do well with the 2030. Good Luck and let us know how it turns out!

Well, here is the 2030 in my combo at idle. Judge for yourself. See my website for the rest of the mods.

But, until you do the heads/intake, the performance gain will be minimal. With my combo though, this cam works great. I love it.
