Post advancing the timing

I want to bump the timing up on my '88GT. I forget, is there something I need to disconnect first? Also, I remember something that should have a voltage reading of 1 or .9
What is that and how do I check that?

The .99 volts is for the TPS. And there is a spout connector on the fuel injected cars, not sure about the others. If your car is carbbed none of this applys to you.

I recently bought an '88GT that is why I am asking. You were probably mislead by my signature or screen name that I had a carb. mustang. I have both now and was refering to my '88 mustang. Looks like I will have to change my signature to avoid future confusion.
Can anyone tell me how to adjust the TPS?

Oh, sorry. To adjust the TPS loosed the two phillips screws on the sensore and hook a volt meter to the hot and ground wire. Then turn the senore back and forth till it reads .99. It's a pain to adjust, I wouldn't mess with it cause it's not worth anything but a hassel unless you have a huge cam.

Let me see if I can explain how to adjust the TPS a little better for ya. Take a metal safety pin and stick it into the green wire coming out of your TPS sensor. Loosen the screws, hook up your voltmeter positive to the safety pin and the ground to the throttle body, and adjust as necessary. I think the stock setting is around .98 volts. Sometimes taking the TPS off, taking a dremmel and elongating the screw holes makes it easier to adjust the TPS. I hope this helps.
