Post Tremec TKO - is it worth it?

Need your opinions. As some of you know, I've broken my second T-5 in a year. It will cost $2,500 for a TKO with bellhousing, yoke, driveshaft, shifter, and I also believe the clutch.

Is this worth doing? I want to run on a set of 10" slicks and make an 11 second pass. Is there a cheaper transmission that can hold up to the abuse?

I think you should do it. It's alot of money but it's nice having a tranny you don't have to worry about. The tremec 3550 would be cheaper and no driveshaft yolk or special clutch. The only difference in the two are the input/output shaft is beefed up in the TKO.

However since you are in the 11's and will probably want to go faster I would get the TKO.

My buddy broke 3 t-5's so when I went stick I went straight to 3550. So far so good.

Bite the bullet, survive at the track and sleep at night. Good luck.

Definately worth it. I broke an aod, and then a t-5 before i went to a tremec tko. I wish i would have gone straight for the tko in the first place and saved money. It's expensive at first. But figure in the cost of a couple of t-5's and then a super tough tko won't sound so bad.

Hmmm...the T-56 was a possibility, but I was afraid the total parts cost would exceed 3 Large. I'm breaking the bank at $2500, and I don't really need a 6th gear.

If you were going with a T56, I woud def. go with a Viper T56, and that cost like $3200+ with everything. If your going the tremec route, I would really consider looking into the new TKO II.

Does anyone know if you can get a bellhousing/clutch/flywheel setup to bolt a TKO II up to a 460 block?

Yeah you can, they do it all the time in the cobra replica cars. Tremec bolted up to a 460. I've heard only good things about D&D Performance. Give them a call, I'm sure they could help you out.
