I was always under the impression that the EEC has a table to reference regarding the injector cycle which is finite. Once you exceed the computer's table, it would basically trip the check engine light and run in limp mode.

I was also under the impression that MAF EEC's had less tolerance than the SD computers that preceeded them.

That's the sole reason the SD cars have problems with injector swaps. They run out of table data to access in order to adjust the injector cycle.
