And yes they did out 351's in Saleen mustangs. In 1997 they made 19 supercharged Saleen mustang convertables.
The 5.0 versions were not stock either.

To necessitate DOHC on a 351 would have been a total redesign. The block wouldn't have been even remotely the same as the Windsor block.

I don't think we are really going at it, just disputing based on different opinions.

I think the 5.4L DOHC engine is a beast and a half. Hopefully we'll see it in a real Stang someday soon.

Competing with the fbody's with the 4.6L DOHC engine is easy. Gears. 3.73's or 4.10's would put the Cobra on equal ground with them. That's it, right there. For $500, you can have a Cobra that will run with any stock LS1.

I have seen cobras at the track with 3:73 and 4:10 gears and more mods only to run high 13's
The cobraR should run with the F bodies.

It wouldnt need redesigning at all in 74 Demotso designed a sohc and dohc headed 351 W for the pantera it never fanned out but some Lucky Itain Guys were able to buy some of theys limited production cars."some 302's were also made but ive never seen one."

Also Eagle made 4v heads for the gt-40 program but restrictions made it so they never made it onto the cars.

Why do I belive this to be true I saw one at a Seattle car show The rich bas**** also had a cougar with a 427 SOHC in it

As far as who said what 69 Boss 429 "just have to sell my house first"

also someone on this news group reminded me obout some 4v heads that used a y type rolloer rocker they were Aero or something i dont know what happened to that company. "did think about buying those heads "

There were 4 valve heads designed for the 302 recently. They were called Dominion 32v. Those heads were built for extreme high rpms. They run off a single camshaft, which produdces extreme stress on the cam.

A lot of Chevy guys and Ford guys experimented with the 4 valve per cylinder idea, mostly on pushrod engines years and years ago. What they found was the single camshaft could NOT take the pressure of the added valves, and it would snap.

There is a prototype 4 valve 302, the pic is from right here in the Mustangworks.com media center.

If you were to design a DOHC engine, on the same block as the Windsor, you'd need to setup a completely different ignition system, the distributor would have to go, the engine would be an absolute monster in size, and it would be heavier than the old big blocks. So you could do it, without redesigning the engine block, but you'd have to redesign the car it went into.
