You got 2 options, Nitto's and BFG's. The BFG's are going to hook better but tread life is terrible for street use. Then there's the Nitto 555R. With either tire you're going to have to heat them up really good, the Nitto's MUST be really hot to hook good. End result, if I were you I'd get another set of rear rims and get some MT's and be done with it. Just out of curiousity, what tire are you running now? ~Brian

Default drag radials

Hey Jim. Your mph is looking pretty strong. But man you need to hook up. Like Dark_5.0 said...& I'm speaking from experience here...launching at 5000rpms with slicks and the nitrous on from a dead stop will make you think you strapped a frickin jet to the back of your car! Seriously. My best 60ft. time with an 8.5in. slick is 1.6. So just imagine the potential your car has once you lower that 60ft. time. Drag radials will improve your times a lot. They are usually good for 3-4 tenths off of your quarter mile. Slicks will knock off more like a half a second. If you do a decent burnout you could probably launch at around 3000-3500rpms with the drag radials and it should hook. I'm still a fan of slicks though. Nothing beats them....or MT Streets. They are basically a slick with a few grooves down the middle. I run drag radials on the street and slicks at the track. It only takes about 10 minutes to jack up the car and swap tires. Let us know what you end up with.

i think i am going to get DR's when these go completely bald! Any idea how much horsepower my car has with/without nitrous based on my times and mph??

OH, I saw a kid who had a 90 gt with 145000 miles on it completely stock. he is running a 125 dry shot of nitrous and hitting 13.4's on street tires!! think i can put the 125 (fogger) in my car with my set up? Just wondering

i finally went to track this year in my new to me 90 stang. here are some times i rean. i ran a total of 9 times!!! POOR CAR!
Heh, that's nothing. I ran my car 33 times at a 4 and a half hour test & tune (Gateway Rocks!). I wasn't worried about cooling my car for the best times. I was just working on my technique and reaction times. I got the third best reaction time of the evening at .004 (After green). Not to mention my newfound confidence in my ability

Oh, back to the beating up of your car. Don't worry, if you're on street tires you're not hurting anything too much. Now dumping the clutch at 5k with drag slicks like these clowns are suggesting? Now THAT would make me cringe, Tremec TKO and all! That's just asking to twist a 28 spline into putty.

Speaking of numbers to evaluate. I have a personal best of 14.53 at 99.33mph!! With a trap speed like that you'd think I'd be running 13s! How stubborn are these SN95s anyways?

I'm not quite running a drag suspension with blue tokicos and Steeda sport springs, but still. My best 60' is 2.25 and that run ended up being 14.69 @98.67.

My shifts points are around 5000 because on a dyno run I was making peak power at 4800, on a flakey ignition wire, which I have replaced. My rear tire pressure was 32. Does anyone have any advice for me?

well i know your 60 foot time needs to come down to 2.1 or so. mine are at least that

anyways, i am not sure what kind i have. i bought the car as is and it doesnt say in the paperwork i have. if it is something that comes with the holley II kit, then it is probably standard like the opther ones. if not, then i dont have a clue! sorry. what would that help tell you anyways?

any ideas on horsepower with and without nitrous anyone? thanks

jim

just out of curiosity what injectors are you running, as far as the drag radial the 15 inch i have gone high 1.6 60's on a decent track, i have a friend on 17's who cuts consistent high 1.8 low 1.9's with the 275 nittos. it's all in what you prefer. get the car to do what you want on motor then spray it. just my .02

the humidity is killing you... try it with cool dry air..
do you have a bottle pressure guage and a warmer for it? with it being cool out, the pressure might have been low too...

What tires and tire pressure are you running, Jimmy?

I have Michelin XGT Z4s at 35psi front and 32psi rear. My NON drag suspension isn't helping me, either. Tokico blues and steeda sport springs.

Dude you went from 14.2 to 13.5 thats 7 tenths of a second without changing anything but driving technique ... what does that tell you ???? Practice Practice Practice Practice ... The guy you bought the car from was probably a better driver than you are right now. You want to go to the track first time out and drive like John Force and it just don't work that way! Practice !!!

Adam94GT- He is getting advise from people that actually run 12's not clowns. I have over 100 hard launches on my stock axles with no problems.

1jimmy_d- Spraying nitrous on street tires is pretty dumb. Like I said I have seen alot of cars kiss the guard rail doing this. You really should at least use drag radials.

There is a guy that used to frequent this site named Skyman that ran a 13.7 on street tires and mid 12's on slicks.

ok, drag radials it is then 245/50/16 g-force tires is what i have now. i do need to learn how to drive it better, maybe i will try slipping the clutch out slowly from about 2500 or so. any thoughts of me throwing the fogger for a 125 shot? think my car can handle it the way it is set up now? OF COURSE I will have the Dr's first

Adam94GT-
That's funny that you call us "clowns" when some of us are running 12s & 11s with slicks on stock axles. Your 14 second timeslips have hardly given you the experience needed to know how stout the '87-'93 Mustang trannys & rearends actually are.
Eventually I may upgrade...but I have no reason to yet. I have well over a 100 launches on 8.5in. drag slicks launching at 6000rpm on motor (any lower makes me bog after the initial launch) and 5000rpms on a 150shot of nitrous. This is all with a stock T5, stock axles with an Auburn. Don't knock it until you try it man. Slicks can really make your car come alive and help get you consistent track times. And you don't need a Tremec trans. just to throw a sticky tire on your car.

Hey Jim. I answered your post in the Power Adders form about that 125 shot you are thinking about. Definitely get some stickier tires before you even think of upgrading to a bigger shot of the juice. Keep us posted.

If you can promise me my 99mph trap speed car with 28spline axles can stand up to 5k rpm launches on DRs then maybe I'll just try it.
