![]() These are all great suggestions here, but I think this is funny and maybe it is not,but has any of us thought that a thief might be reading this right now?
Not me I know the pain of coming out of a movie theater and seeing a big pile of glass beside your car saying to yourself"aw man please do not let it be mine" and it is. My question to a thief is this:why did you break my glass steal a 200 dollar stereo, the change out of my ashtray, and left the car there? Steal the whole thing please, that way I can get another and have a little change left over for that 300 Winchester Magnum with the Leuophold and Stevens scope on it. It hurts more when you car has been vandalized, than it does when it is stolen or worse yet, stolen just for kicks i.e joy riding. Sorry but this kind of stuff pisses me off when I see or hear about someone car being stolen or broken into,I like Louisiana laws "if you are being car-jacked you can kill the guy car-jacking" honey pack up the house LOL.

You cannot shift an automatic car into drive without depressing the brake pedal first and cannot start a car with a stick. Even if you find a way to get the car started you will not be able to stop it once going or shift it effectively. It doesn't seem like you could twist it off of the pedal either. And if you did it would be extremely difficult to stop/shift. I know there are still ways around this and a good thief can get the car if they want it, but this will keep the little punks scratching their heads and finding an easier target. Even a professional would have to come prepared to get the car.

![]() yeah i heard that autolock is pretty good. but what do u guys think about that keypad thing at http://www.qkits.com/serv/qkits/vel...pages/SP150.asp ?
is it worth it? or would a theft be about to bypass it to easy? even if so, im thinking with a really really good car alarm, an autolock, and the keypad... any theft will either not bother trying, or try and spend a good amount of time risking to be caught. |

![]() My car being such a old car and my love for it I make sure she never leaves my sight. If I go somewhere she won't be left unattended for more then a few minutes. And I will be able to hear her if she is started. Although I don't always like that feeling. I want to add a kill switch, possibly split it to two different locations, one for when I'm going to be away from it for awhile so I'd put it in my trunk or something along that matter, and one somewhere in my car. Maybe I'll just put a timer on my car, if it's opened with the alarm set a clock will pop up with a countdown from 30, and it will have an explosive sticker on it.

![]() Along the lines of Chirs's idea, pull the wire from the coil to the Distributor. A little cleaner than grabbing the distributor, and a theif would not likely go grabbing other wires to make this work. After all, there are ways around this, but the car won't run real well.
If somebody gets into your car, and can't make it start chances are they will leave it. Had a friend with just an LED that he would switch on when he left the car. Looked just like my alarm when they were on. I've thought about getting the boot. Like parking people put on your car. No one would mess with that.

![]() All of the above are great ideas, I need to look into some of them for theft prevention.
What I currently have (and highly recommend) is a LoJack. It's a little bit expensive ($600-700) but IMO it's worth it. Just for the insurance discount alone. My company, Progressive, gives me 20% off just for having it. That savings is HUGE when you are insuring a V8 mustang (as I am sure you all know!) It does nothing to prevent the theft from occurring, what it does is track the vehicle once it's stolen. A small transmitter is installed somewhere in the vehicle (I don't even know where mine is) It remains dormant until activated. The police activate it when you call them to report the theft. They can then track the car and recover it quickly, hopefully before any damage has been done. Supposedly cars have been recovered after only 15 minutes. Okay... I am starting to sound like a LoJack commercial! Seriously though, it's a good investment and worth looking into. Also - mine was installed at the dealership when my car was bought, it is probably cheaper elsewhere. All the Best, Errant |
