Default starter stay engaged 3 secs too long

I just finished a 351 swap in my 93 and now my starter stay engaged 3 seconds too long. It was fine before. It has a new selonoid but the same 93 stock starter that was fine w/the 93 stock engine.

Check how you have your wiring to the starter relay (in the engine bay).

You should have a larger cable that runs directly to the starter. You shouls have a separate wire that runs to the starter solenoid, directly above the starter. The smaller wire MUST BE ON THE OPPOSITE POST AS THE BATTERY CABLE/CABLE TO STARTER.

If they are both on the same post the starter will not disengage correctly, much like what you are describing. Check that first, I bet that is your problem. Good luck!

Default still hangin!

Starter still hangs 3 secs after start. My selonoid is set up like this:

seloniod post closest to battery - big and little starter wire.
seloniod post closest to firewall - everything else!

Am I wrong??

YES

The big starter wire and small starter wire DO NOT go on the same post.

Test which post is always "hot", or connected to the battery. THe big starter wire goes to this post. THe small starter wire goes to the big post opposite of the battery/big starter wire post.

From experience this will fix your problem. Let us know how it goes and good luck!

That means everything goes on the battery post except the little starter wire?

Basically yes, EVERYTHING goes on the "input" side of the relay. For me, it was the further back side (toward driver), versus the "output" (activated) side which is closer to the headlights. On the 'output" side, you ONLY have the LITTLE WIRE.

Again, EVERYTHING (ALL THE WIRES) goes on the "R" ("R"elay) side of the solenoid, and the little wire ONLY goes on the "y" (rela"Y") side, as in the diagram.
