AOD Tranny broke... What should I get?
I want to stick with an AOD, the less modifying to get my car running again, the better. Leaning towards Lentech. What all do you guys recommend/have etc. Goals 500rwhp, possibly N/A probably blown though. I want it streetable. Have 3.55s in it now, but going to upgrade to 3.73s. Help!

I don't think you can go wrong with a Lentech for the A.O.D.

Friend, dont waste your time going to 3.73's, you wont see enough difference to warrant the change. Go 4.10's or 4.30's. I'm going 4.56 on an AOD myself and this is a street car driven on the highway. You have a .67 OD, use it to your advantage!
Buy a rebuild kit from transstar ($70) and an AOD-HP kit from transgo ($100) and some kevlar bands ($25 each). If you have a budget, a 3000 stall tci street fighter lockup ($300), a hardened lockup shaft ($160, a must for 500 HP) and an A or A+ servo (another $150) since you'll spend so much time in OD with those higher gears. You will be surprised (well, once you wrestle it out of the car) how easy it is to do an AOD rebuild. It's just a bunch of stuff stacked up and held together with a few snaprings. Once you get your snapring technique down, you can rebuild an aod in your basement in 2 afternoons plus the horror of dropping and replacing a 200 lb transmission (......1 ton floor jack with big piece of wood under pan and 2 scissors jacks on the sides hooked into the pan lip to keep it from tipping sideways. Takes about an hour to lower and an hour to raise. Slides around real easy on the pan.). I had never even seen or driven an AOD before I got a junkyard piece for about $100 and went ahead with a rebuild. Just take lots of pictures during disassembly! It gave me a real appreciation for the technical marvel that is an automatic transmission! Have fun!

I've rebuilt it before, its not worth the wrestling to me, I found a place that will do it for about $1500, plus custom build a torque convertor, they rebuild with ford truck parts and other much stronger parts, plus they will guarentee it to 700 rwhp... I was pretty impressed. I got to drive their project car, which just happened to be an automatic mustang with about 400 rwhp... thanks for the advice, its pretty much exactly what I did last time though.
