Post Header bolts ( please help ASAP)

I lost a few bolts out of one header creating a leak.

I want to get some new ones today for a quick fix. I need to know the correct size bolt.

Thanks in advance

Eric

I'm not sure of the exact bolt size, but why don't you just take one of the existing ones with you to the parts store to match up with? That's what I did and came home with the right ones.

The header bolts are 5/16 by 1 inch long. Should be able to pick these up at any parts store.

I was going to take another one out, but they are rusted in. I was afraid that I may brake the bolt. I don't want to have to drill out any bolts.

Thank you for the size, saves me the trouble.

I should just get some stage 8 bolts, but I don't want to spend anymore money on this car.

Thanks again, Eric

Next time you put in your header bolts, put a little bit of thread lock on them, to keep them from comming out.

That's the thing that sucks about headers, they're notorious for having bolts back out, and when a header starts to leak it can warp so it never matches up correctly after that. The next chance you get you should take off the header and check with a straight edge that the mating surface is flat and replace the gasket as well. Good luck, sorry to hear your problem. I have to check my header bolts every 2,000 to 3,000 miles now that they've settled in because there's always 1 bolts thats kinda loose and a couple of other that aren't quite that tight.

Well, I found that getting a socket next to the header was almost impossible. I used a hex head bolt and it made it so easy to get in. Getting the hex key in the tight space was simple. The lock tight should keep them in(thanks 1BAD89).

You might want to try hex heads if you need to put in some new header bolts. I can't see why this would be a bad thing to try.

Project finshed! Thanks
