smog pump delete
I am not interested is any type emission control for my car so I want to get rid of the smog pump. Is the smog pump labeled air pump on the sticker in front of the radiator. If so, can I just remove this and run a shorter belt or do I have to buy a smog pump eliminator kit. Also, if the pipe that comes off the smog pump is cut off from the h-pipe and just sitting open will it create a ticking noise similar to a exaust leak noise.

I'm not sure about the label, I've never looked. I think you can just run a shorter belt, but I'm not 100% sure. But definately yes on the last question. I have a bassani o/r x and I melt the hose, that connects that tube to the tube coming off the pump, on a regular basis. The first time I melted it, I thought I had hit my x-pipe on a bump and tore a hole in it. It sounded horrible.

smog pump
the pipe that comes off my prochamber is crimped and welded off, but the smog pump pipe is still open. Thats what I'm refering to when I talk about the ticking noise. Would that still make a noise.

If you remove the smog pump, you will have to take the EGR crossover out from behind the cylinder heads and/or plug it up so exhaust doesn't escape from the cylinder heads (loud ticking exhaust leak). Also the smog pump is still pumping, so if you get rid of it, the noise you have should go away.
You can in fact, run just a shorter belt to bypass it. you can do the same with the power steering if you have A/C (just a useless fact). I have an air pump bypass pulley (Ford Motorsport), but it's just a waste of money, unless you feel like you have to use the stock length belt. If i were you , i'd just get a shorter belt.

smog pump
The smog pump is the pulley thats on the passenger side underneath the alternator, right? And also, if I just run a shorter belt will I still have to plug or remove that egr crossover?

For what it's worth, I have a Novi 2000 blower and I see no way of eliminating the smog pump. The way that they have the brackets set up, you have to have a pulley there. If anyone has any different ideas or an eliminator kit for sale, please let me know.

IF you can route the belt without rubbing or reversing the direction of pulleys... then its ok to do.
You will have to deal with the h-pipe tube. Either you can cut it off and crimp it shut... and then deal with the back of the heads with pipe plugs to block them off too. Personally, I needed the dummy pulley cause of the S-trim.. and the old h-pipe was like this: and the heads had the pipe plug from Home Depot:

When we took mine off here's what we did. I took the smog off and I run a 69.5 inch belt because I also run a manual steering rack. The one you'll need will be around 85 inches or something like that. Then you'll need some kind of aftermarket H or X pipe, you don't want to do this mod if you still have cats because all it's going to result in is clogging the cats. After that you'll plug the tub in the h/x pipe. I'm like somebody else on this thread I have a mac prochamber and we just crimped the tube on the prochamber closed and hit it with a welder. After that you'll probably want to/need to get rid of the smog hoses. The easy way to do this is take them loose and then pull the little things off the back of the heads. They are little plates where the smog tube goes in. You'll take that and cut the metal tubes off of them with a hax saw, then switch them from side to side, left goes and right and vise versa, that makes it actually block off the port in the head like a metal stopper.
You're not gonna really see a power increase from this mod unless your pump is toast, you'll get an increase from the H or X pipe. The main reason I wanted to do it was to make it easier to work on the motor and get rid of the extra weight off the front of the car for weight transfer. Overall the job took like 4 hours to put a set of equal length shorties, MAC Pro Chamber, and kill the smog pump and all the smog hoses. My friend that did it is a pro at this though and has done it to dozens of cars.

Hey darius, i don't suppose you remember what thread the holes in the back of the heads were for the plug?
I retained the crossover parts that bolt to the head and welded them closed, but i'd like to just put actual plugs in the heads instead.

I think its a 3/8" plug (which looks more like a 1/2" diameter piece of bolt).

Nope not 3/8ths. The thread size of the thermactor holes in the back of the heads are 5/8" thread and about 1" long.
I seem to remember a thread exactly like this one last week.

I am also interested in this. In reading other spreads on doing this I came across people having trouble with alternator belt clearance when deleting the smog pump and using a shorter belt. My car is an 89 LX hatch w/o ac. has anyone else had to use and alternator relocation bracket to avoid clearance trouble or frying alt bearings?
