Default Carbon Canister

I have an 88GT.
The Carbon Canister is broken (has been for years). Is this thing needed? What does it do?

Default Re: Carbon Canister

The carbon canister is part of the vapor recovery system designed to direct fuel vapors/pressure from the fuel tank into the engine instead of the atmosphere. Some issues if it is broken is that it can cause a vacuum leak that affects air/fuel at idle. It can also be plugged, which can cause the fuel tank to 'burp' when you try and fill it up.
