Default 14psi on stock 87GT

Hi

I'm thinking of buying a basically stock 87 GT with a 14psi procharger with a 3 core intercooler.

THis car has 24# injectors and a full exhaust other then that it is stock. Will a stock 87 5.0 run right with this setup or is this a good way to bust a piston or ripp this tranny a new one.

I don't want a fast car that does not go.
Thanks

Just run about 5-6#'s of boost and you will be O.K. You will need more fuel to run more boost, which means bigger pump(s) and injectors.

I would lower the boost, 14 sounds too high for 24pph injectors. As far as the tranny, I was making 360 hp and my t5 lasted 2 years. Thats speed shifting and never power shifting. I think procharger rates the 14 lb blower on a stock 5.0 at like 430 flywheel.

If you tear down the motor and o-ring the heads and get 30 or 42 # injectors and matching mas and a 255LPH fuel pump you should be OK.

You could complete the project in a weekend for less than a grand and have a fast @ss car.

DO IT!!!!

If your going to tear down the engine, add a main support system to. It'll help keep the block in one piece.

Canukracer and Bigsparky: Thanks for the compliment guys. Do you have any pictures of your cars? Make sure to post them in the users ride section!

I'd say buy it and get bigger injectors and fuel pump and maybe a larger pully for the supercharger to down the pressure a little. I woulden't o-ring the heads so that if it does try to do something bad it will be a little more likely to blow a head gasket instead of blowing the engine. I woulden't think o-ringed heads arent necessary on a stock block.

Small block Ford heads are held in place with too few bolts. As a result, they are just begging to blow a head gasket. Add 14 pounds of boost, and it isn't "is it gonna blow a head gasket?", it's "when?".

The stock block has nothing to do with weather or not you O-ring the heads.

As PKRWUD stated only 10 bolts hold down a 302 head. With boost you need all the help you can get.

IMO,

with 14 psi of boost I am not saying you won't blow a gasket. I am saying that if you o-ring the heads and with 14 psi there is a very little strength to spare with a stock block. if there is a slight bit of detonation or something goes a lil astray the stock block will prolly break something instead of blowing a gasket. Me I would rather replace a gasket than a block.
