Default going turbocharged which cubic inch motor to build

hey fellow mustangers after all the deciding on power adders i'm going with a twin turbo set up by turbo driven concepts.and now all i got to do is decide what would be the best stroker motor to build as my foundation for this turbo charger i already decided on the heads i'm going with the new trick flow high port heads, still deciding on a intake for it. what would be the best cubic inch motor to build for it should i go with a stroked 302 or a stroked 351.the car i'm building it for already has drag race suspension front to back and i'm hoping to get into the low 10's possibly a high 9's on a good cool day.so i would appreciate any help u all can give me thank u.

I would say a 331, but I'd suggest a different set of heads. I'd personally go with the AFR 185's a little more pricey, but well worth it, and have them o-ringed. Or if you are set on Trick flows, I'd go with the TEA 185's, with the mathching Intake. A friend of mine has a twin turbo 331, he is running 11's, but his heads and intake is what holds him back. He is running GT40's, and a cobra intake.

Stroked 351 all the way. 302 and 351 parts are very close in price and you will be much happier with the cubes. Remember, there's no replacement, for displacement. ~Brian

depends on what you want a 302 will spin higher and faster than a 393 but on the street there will be no comperison at the track a modified high winding 302 will run strong

so if you have some of the parts or , How your going to use the car will decide alot.

IO would suggest a 393 , boxed upper intake ( gives better top end boost at some loss of low end torque)large intercooler

280 degree 512 lift solid roller cam and adjustable boost gauge will get you into the high 9's

also trans has alot to do with a 9 second car .

my car has a shudder that off of the line freakes me out
it twists and bucks , we tried new slicks and whoa traction launch lift almost wet pants. I never thought old slick would cause all the problems we were having.

Hehe...ever since I got the Mustang 5 years ago, I've been wanting to go turbo. Never could afford it.

However, in the next 5 or so years, that will change

Anyway, I've planned for a while now to build a 393-408 stroker off a 351 windsor in front of a Lentech built AOD. It won't have to spin as high to make the power and should be stronger and more reliable. Watch out, though. Those turbos will be a handful on top of the horsepower you will make out of a stroked 351 with a decent head/intake/cam combo.

READ THIS!!!

People are having very large wait times on their TDC systems (up to 1.5 years) I Strongly advise you to go to this website and ask some questions before buying. There are also links to every place that sells a turbo kit for a mustang. I personaly have ordered a Pro Turbo Kits Street T-64 setup. It will be to me no later than July 18th or I get 15% of the whole order!!

high ports are ok they will work actually any quility aluminum head can be made to work.

I personally am thinking of getting AFR 205's

any 351 based lower trick flow or edlebrox with a boxed upper
I'm not to sure of a Gt 40 stlye ported .I port a ford truck lower to work with my combo

but the boxxed upper alows the motor to rev better.

same cam for hydraulic roller.

well i already have the transmission it's a dynamic racing mighty mite c4 with trans brake, with a 373 gear and a eaton posi.this car isn't going to be a every day driver i mean i'll take it out on weekends but that's about it i'm going to take it to the track every now and then.i think i have gotten my choice down to a 331 or a 408 stroker. the reason why i'm going hydralic roller instead of a solid roller is because the mechanics around here where i live wouldn't have a clue on how to adjust the valves and to be honest i woudn't trust them with my car if ya know what i mean lol. every hot rodder that i have talk to says if u build a engine build it right the first time.i appreciate every ones help.so please keep the suggestion coming. thanks for your time

i would recommend going with a 393 stroker, especially with the power adder. A point to ponder, the horsepower to speculating to acheive should be way over 500 hp. Your connecting rods are going to have to be a very good high quality choice. The rod on the 393 is a 351 rod. The other different cubic inch stroker rods are a unique length. Rods are going to be cheaper if you consider that the 351 rods are going to be more readily available and should be cheaper. Also consider the balancing that is going to be required. The crankshafts for those stroker cranks usually still require balancing, and if you buy a low buck kit, it probably isnt really going to handle your horsepower application. Most engine builders are going to recommend interally balancing your crank, (big money, mine was 800 bucks. lots of precisious metal). And i would recommend o-ringing the block, its more structually sound to o ring the block instead of the heads. Have everything torque plated and honed. IM running a hydralic roller cam on my combo. Great power, nice torque curve. As far as intake, i recommend victor, or maybe victor jr. Some big rpm intake for the 351 should work quite nice on blown 393, 408
peace

and yeah i know that 408 motors have chrysler 6 cylinder truck rods, but still, i would rather have a 351 rod, cause if for some reason it blows apart, you can reuse 351 rods, what the hell are you going to do with 6 cylinder rods?
even if they are aftermarket rods, i like the flexiblity of being able to reuse those 500 dollar rods if i wanted too. those high ports would work great on a big motor like that

Just as a note, I think it was MM&FF that made 1000+ HP/850+ # off a 331 running 13.9 #s of boost (single turbo).

Thanks,
