DriveTrain Changeover?
Hey i Need a Opinon.
I have A 86 GT That Ive Built Up Pretty Good, And now that im only a few months from my Goal for the motor/tranny/rear Ive now noticed that my body/interior has turned to trash in the years ive ignored looks and thought nothing but power, So now ive decided that its to far gone to save, so i want to switch my motor/tranny/rear Into another stang, "87-93 LX" Heres the deal, I Know everything about mustangs, ive been reading and learning and listening for around 6 years now, and ive done some minor mods myself, intakes, heads, fuel systems, some exhaust, but i dont know if i can handle This Job. Is It really hard and agervating? I Got the space to work, and Tools, or should i just slap someone 400 to do it? but i really wanna do it but i really want my car to start up after im done too. LMAO! Give me your guys opinon. should i tackle a drivetrain switchover? ------------------ Mike A.k.A MrGtStang 1986 GT, 12.75, To Many to List. 1995 GT, 13.97, 3.73's, flowmasters, ADS Chip, K&N, Removed Intake Silencer, Stock AODE, |

If you have the tools and a place to work on it I say go for it. You will save yourself some headachs if you have a good friend that likes to help. I was in the same boat that you were in when I did my first motor swap. Now we are pulling the motor and trans every winter to go through everything to make sure it is all in spec.

A few good long weekends, an engine hoist, a transmission jack, some jack stands, your usual hand tools, and a few dozen cases of beer should be all you really need. I did something like this a few years ago during the summer in my driveway and used my parents garage as my parts depot. Needless to say...if I'd planned better it may not have taken 3 months. Just keep the faith. Things will be tricky at first but you can't just throw in the towel.

If you are swapping into an existing clapped out 5.0 things should be so easy it's not even funny.
If you are swapping into a 4 banger, it'll be a little tedious, but almost everything should be pretty simple. Tedious, but not really all that hard. |
