Question Buying Used gears?

Is it a good idea to buy used gears? The gears have less than 1,000 miles on them, and they are 3.73's. The only thing is what is a good price, and what rear end is on a 95' GT? Is it an 8.8?
Thanks

I actually bought a set of 373 gears this weekend from an auto salvage. The teeth are 11 (pinion) and 41 (ring), so I know they are really 373's. My question is, how do I know if these gears are for a 8.8 rear end? How big should the ring be (diameter)? Any help would be great, I'd like to know if I got ripped off.

I've heard it's not always a good idea. I've never bought gears period, but they develop they're own wear pattern after a few hundred miles of use and it can mess them up unless you install them the exact way they came out (which is obviously next to impossible). Good luck though man. Hope it all works out.

Pinion diameter for the 8.8 is 1.626". You can check that to make sure.
