I'm done! - Car for sale inside. What's it worth?
I'm sick and tired of turning wrenches and going nowhere. We just tried to adjust the rockers to eliminate a vacuum problem and now I have rockers tapping hard and it runs worse than ever. It's a simple fix, but I've sunk too much money into this car to keep going with it and am ready to take a loss. What do you think this car is worth. You can see it here... http://www.indianastangers.com/2Fast...tang/index.htm
It's a 1990 LX 5.0. Here's the mods... • 76mm C&L MAF • 24lb SVO injectors • Walbo 190lph fuel pump • 65mm Explorer TB • MAC cold air kit • K&N air filter • GT-40 intake • 1" Phenolic spacer • Ported stock ET7E heads - 3 angle valve job - shaved .030 • F303 cam • Omega 1.6 roller rockers • Crane valve springs • Ford racing valve covers • MAC 1 5/8" long tube headers • MAC 2 1/2" Pro Chamber • MAC 2 1/2" cat back with chrome tips • MSD Blaster coil • FMS 3.73 gears • King Cobra clutch and pressure plate • Taylor Spiro Pro plug wires • Taylor battery box in hatch • 130 amp 3G alternator • Stewart high volume water pump • Heavy duty radiator • Ford 5300C Springs • Koni Sport Yellow struts and shocks • BBK caster/camber plates • 16" Cobra R rims • 225/50ZR/16 Dunlop SP Sport 8000 tires • Pro 5.0 shifter • A/C, smog pump, and rear seat delete • Custom made shifter cover and knob • Aluminum foot pedals • MAC white face gauge overlay • KSR white face A/C control overlay BTW, every one of these mods are less than a year old. I've totaled up the list and come to around $6,000 in mods alone. Also, I just installed a brand new set of Ford Racing valve covers so don't pay any attention to those nasty stockers in the pics. Any opinions as to what I should do will be considered, but I am for the most part fed up with this sh!t. Thanks for listening. ------------------ Gunning for 12's! Alright, just relax. Let the Stang sit for a while. Take a break from all of this. Come back in a week or so and then start again.

Dont get discouraged. If you quit at everything as soon as it got hard you would get no where in life. The most successful people are those who fail the most and keep trying.

with those shaved heads, what gas do you have to run? if you were to back the timing off to stock, what would it be?

The car runs fine (other than the vacuum leak, err, now I guess the rockers hammering on the pushrods) even on regular unleaded with the timing at 14 degrees. But I stick to premium anyway.
I'm going to tear into it one more time tomorrow and see if I can get the rockers adjusted properly (I have no clue what I'm doing). They are knocking loud now that we loosened them up trying to fix the vacuum problem. I'd be more than happy to pay someone $100 to come and adjust these rockers for me and get my car running good. Valve covers will be off. All you gotta do is turn an allen wrench on 16 rockers and snug down a locking nut on each one. This car can't sit. It's my daily driver and I need it to get back and forth to work, or I need to sell it and get a new one ASAP. For those who haven't seen all of my previous posts... I have been trying to get this combo running right for quite awhile now and have ended up chasing one problem after another. And with all the other things that I have had to fix along the way it has just wore me out both mentally, and financially. I'd sell the car for the right price, even though I know I'd be kicking myself later. But you know, a brand new canary yellow GT would take away those blues. ------------------ Gunning for 12's! another possibility is a trade, you know i wish i had a five speed car, but i kinda hate to lose my fairly shiny coupe, maybe we could swap cars if i could keep my wheels and stereo? just a thought, but if you do go to Tim's house, which you definately should, i know you'll get it running fine anyway, let me know when you go, i'll show up there too, good luck

That would be very tempting Drew. And I would want to keep my wheels too. But, I have too much money in these bolt-ons to go at it with an even trade. Give me some options here and maybe we'll talk business. You'd have more luck getting the car to run good than me with Tim living so close

Don't Give Up Yet!
Let Tim tinker with it and see what he can do first, and if you don't get it running I second the opinion to let it sit for a week don't even look at it, then go back and start with the basics and go from there...you would defintly regret it if you sold it. I knew I could count on you guys to talk me back to my senses. I'm still working on it, just taking it slow. But, I am still considering selling it to buy a new Cobra or GT. I wanted one when I bought this car but couldn't afford it at the time. I'll probably keep it and try to pay it off quick with the extra money we will have after we pay her car off in a couple months, then go buy a new Cobra. I'm still pi$$ed at the car though.
Rick, as SOON as I get it back on the road Tim's house will be its first stop. I should have done this when I first got it back together. Or maybe if I can get him to come to the Terre Haute meet we are having we can do it there. There'll be lots of Stangers around to give me advice LOL. But, if it makes you guys feel better I went and bought a bunch more chit for it to clean it up and get her all shiny for our meet next weekend. Hopefully that will renew my love for the car and help me forget how much of a b!tch it has been to me lately. I'd still like to know what you guys think the car is worth just for the hell of it. It has no rust, a few dings, and a pretty descent interior (if I ever get it back together. I just want to see what other Stangers would pay for a car with this many mods to see how much I've lost BTW, the car was bought for $4000 a year ago which was a pretty good price I thought. Thanks guys! ------------------ Gunning for 12's! My Stang Page Buy your parts here ICQ# 42269241 |

Man, that a tough choice, but something to keep in mind...bolt ons do NOTHING for the value of your car...eithier keep it or prepare to take a HUGE loss. Nature of the hobby.

Well c'mon dude, did you get it figured out? You gotta keep us updated. Did you get your lifter preload set properly? Are you still having low vacuum problems? Let us know.
