Default Need Help Did I hurt my 5.0 engine?

I have an 83' 5.0 HO with auto trans. Anyway, I pushed my gas pedal down before I started it as I usually do. When I started it the throttle cable apparently got stuck and the rpms revved all the way up to 6000 rpm. I turned the engine off as soon as I realized what was happening which is about when it hit 6000 rpm. Do you think my engine is in trouble or it won't last very long now? I drove it home afterward and it seemed fine, good oil pressure etc. I have fresh Castrol 20-50 in it not sure if this makes a difference or not. It isn't leaking any fluids. Thanks for the help.

Your car is fine, don't sweat it. The rev limited kicks off at 6250 so your safe.

Sounds pretty funny hearing a V8 up that high doesnt it? I hit 6500 once. I found a bent connecting rod in my engine later. But I doubt I did that. It used to be a nitrous car....'nuff said.

Thanks for the replies. I hope that it is ok. How can I tell if a connecting rod bent? It was only up there for a second but maybe that was long enough.

As a fellow sufferer of the throttle snag and having been at redline a few times myself unwillingly, lemme tell ya, you're all set. Dont worry. The bigger problem is 6000 rpms under load. Now that might get stuff to be bent apart, but in neutral/park, the engine is not really under stress. WD40 that throttle cable, dude

I shift my car at 6500 so I highly doubt you damaged it.

6 grand is no big deal. That's the very start of the redline. I hit 6 grand today unintentionally...spun my way through first gear getting onto the interstate. Amazing the tranny had the grip left to do it... 4.10's rule.
