Post Removing 5.0 and snake emblems.....

My emblems are showing their age and I would like to get new ones.

Can I remove these easily? The emblems I want to remove are the 5.0 and the snake from my side fenders. I would also like to remove the FORD on my tailgate.

Are they easy to remove? How do I do it? Will it hurt the paint?

Ian

actually they are pretty hard to take off, especially if they are the original ones from 88. sad but true. and the one on your tailgate will leave you with 2 holes in the trunk, (atleast mine did, 94GT) but if you take your time and be patient, you can take off your 5.0 signs off with out any damage, dont know about the cobra signs though.
good luck.

The bonehead that painted my hatch left the LX on it and I pulled it off. There were no holes but it will be hard to cover up because of the glue. Don't know about the other ones. BTW the hatch was off a 1990.

There's a little trick that is used in body shops. Go buy a spool of high-test fishing line, and wind some in your fingers like you're flossing your teeth. Use a back and forth motion like a shoe polishing cloth. Slowly the line will eat through the adhesive on the back of the emblem. If they're the original '88 emblems, they should come off easily, leaving a little residue behind on the fender. Clean this off with a cloth and some paint-friendly adhesive remover. Voila... No paint damage. Don't mess with the decklid emblem. Like Five.0 said, you'll have 2 little holes in the metal. That would look corny as hell... But not as corny as Cobra badges on a GT... Just my 2 cents worth... Good luck.

Thanks for the tip! I will order a new set of 5.0 badges.

As for the snakes, I may put them back on, I have them because I live in Canada and all GT's are called Cobra's.

Thanks!

This is super easy. Take a hair dryer and warm up the badge you want to take off. Than, as 95stangdriver said take some fishing line or dental floss and work it in. The glue should be soft and easy to remove. Good luck!
