New Motor 331 or stroked 351 ?
We're looking to put a new motor in our 88GT. Two choices are 331 or stroked 351 ->408. Have a T-Trim waiting for a new home as well. How hard is it to drop a 351 block in a fox body? We live in Virginia, any chance the 408 could be emissions legal?
Leaning towards the 331 with a DART block. Looking at a Keith Craft motor, any thoughts comments etc are appreciated. |

Re: New Motor 331 or stroked 351 ?
One more question - I've heard 351 blocks are stronger then 302 blocks. If I go with a 408 would you still suggest going with a DART block?
We want to slowly increase the boost levels from our T-Trim, so we're looking for longevity on the bottom end, is why we're looking at DART blocks. |

Re: New Motor 331 or stroked 351 ?
Definitely go with the 351 block. You have more displacement to work with, as well as more horsepower and torque. Displacement is not replaceable. The stroker kit in the 351 will give you incredible power numbers with the T-trim. In my opinion, its almost a waste of money to buy another block that is not of a larger size. A blown 331 has the potential to make some good numbers, but nothing compared to a blown 408. As for as longevity of your bottom end, that will all depend on your internals.
I'm sure a few people are going to disagree with me, so be ready for an argument.... |

Absolutely. Bigger is always better.
Highly recommend the Dart block. If you're gonna make any kind of power, why not get something you won't have to be constantly wondering if it's gonna break about later. Don't know anything about turbos OR blowers, but I do know a little about n/a set ups. (711 hp this year)......:>) |
