BBK O/R h-pipe on... and it was a B!@CH !
Me and a friend put on my h-pipe today. We put on the first time and the cross tube would not line up and the hangers were pushing the whole thing to the side. So we took it off and tried to heat it up and bend it and put a dimple in it and put it back on. It still did not clear the trany cross membr so we tool of again and tried bending the hangers. That did not work so me cut off the passengers side hanger and left it off. When we did that we figured out the cross tube still was cock eyed so we left it and tightend down the the flow tubes to the h-pipe and now my tips are not even.
In my opinion BBK's workmanship sucks! ------------------ Steve Stumbaugh 89 LX 5.0 5sp. Removed air silencer Motorcraft 8mm wires Autolite platinum plugs BBK O/R h-pipe |

eithier that or your mechanical abilities? j/k....A lot of aftermarket parts dont fit so perfect. If you want to stay with modifying your car, get used to it.

I'll have to second the opinion on BBK H-pipes.
My hi flow cat was terrible. I'm talking not even close. I had to bend the hangers, cut the air tube, and bring it to my friends shop. There we heated the H pipe up till it was glowing, stuck a pipe in the damn thing and bent it a good 2"-3" further apart. Incidentally, it was so bad, I shipped it back to Summit. Summit re-boxed the exact same H-pipe I send them, and shipped it back to me. I had to talk to about a 1/2 dozen people at BBK and Summit before they said I could modify it to fit and my warranty would still be good. I took it home, finally got it installed after borrowing my friends ratchet straps to pull it together about 1/2". A few weeks later my tranny blew, it was another 2 hour process getting the H-pipe back in. I've heard good things about BBK's off road **** though. I looked at mine, and figured the problem was all the additional welds on the hi-flow that was my quality issue. |

Hmmmmm maybe you guy's just aren't good at working on cars.... J/k Well I have a BBK off road H-pipe and the fit was perfect and so was the quality. I also have BBK headers, Throtle body, adjustable clutch quadrant, cold air induction, blah blah blah, I could go on and on. BBK is high quality so I don't know where you get you parts.

I know this is a Windor forum, but the subject is the same for my car. I had a hell of a time getting my H-Pipe on my 2000 GT to seal up, it seemed to fit decently but it wont seal up at the drives side collector.
Also, my Exhaust tips are staggered now also. The passenger side pipe is about 1/2 to 1/4 inch further back than the drivers side pipe. As for my mechaninal skills, I'm a fairly competent mechanic. |

If BBK high flow cats blow, who do you recommend? I have mac off-road, it fit ok, but still needed a little "adjustment". But, if I move to a inspection area, ill need a cat pipe.

Must be the H-pipes. My BBK longtube headers fit great, I was really impressed with how they cleared everything. But the Off Road H-pipe wasn't even close! Had to bend one hanger, cut the other one off and re-weld it, and spread the tubes that bolt to the headers about 3 inches by bending them. Fits OK now, but what a pain in the a$$!

You really need to play with the h-pipe down there. It all depends how you approach the headers and hangers.
When I installed my MAC H-Pipe, I really thought it was not going to fit. I had a hard time trying to figure why everything looked so different. you really need to think. |

I had problems with a MAC H on my 85. It hung down way too much after installation. I took it to Midas, and they had to remove it and put a 7 degree upward bend in both sides.

I install these things on drive on lifts and only have problems with the units that are not pre-assembled. I only have problems because it takes to long to fit up and tack I sometimes lose a good "fit up".
If you are buying from Summit or another large parts warehouse stock-piler, you are going to get goods that have been handled way too much. It is no suprise that the pipes don't fit just right. Compare what you are installing to what you are taking off sometime. If the flanges are that far off (tape measure anyone?) it should be obvious and you won't waste all your time cursing under a car. This goes for any part, throttle body to oil pan to tail pipe. Mike Mike ------------------ Live near St.Louis? Check out Mustang Muscle and Dyno in High Ridge, MO Check out my ride. |

I feel your pain but I installed BBK long tubes O/R H-pipe and the American thunder flows and tailpipes and while it didn't fit like a glove it all went together fairly easily. The only problem I remember was having to lift the whole system with a floor jack while tightening it all up and that only required lifting it about an inch once everything was hot bolted.
