Flex fan size
All,
I want to order a flex fan, but see two sizes listed in summit (17 and 18 I believe). If I wasn't in Baghdad I'd just measure it and be done, but it's not here. I want to order it so it'll be ready when I go home. What size do I need? It's got the stock shroud on it. Thanks, Rob |

Flex fans have been dyno proven to cost you hp. Pick up an electric fan.

Unless the flex fan will rob around 15 HP I really don't give a F&&K at this time. The day I swap in a 351 firebreather I'll worry about the 3-5 HP the fan will cost. Right now with a bone stock engine, I don't think it'll make a damn of a difference.
I guess the bottom line is nobody knows what the stock fan size is, nice.....

Pretty sure its 18", but I know the 17" will fit no problem. I've got a 16" e-fan in the stock shroud with lots of room all the way around it.
And yes the stock fan compared to the e-fan does cost a difference of 5-10hp. Going from the stock fan to an e-fan changed my 1/4 times by 2 tenths.

I wish I could be more help but I havent been stock for a long time.
I used to run a 17 inch flex fan with the stock shroud. It worked pretty good until I installed under drive pulleys.

17in., sounds good, thanks. I have a whole package of things that I want to get all at once when I return to the US. It's just too damn difficult to do anything over in Germany because there's nowhere to get parts. Getting simple things has been a nightmare in the past. I'm just trying to get this one thing ordered so I can take care of it while on R & R so the wife can drive it while I finish up here....
Thanks, Rob

Plus the fact there so 1) stupid noisy ,if they sounded cool that be a different story ,but the noise that comes off them is retarded.
If you have a nice exhaust sound you never get to hear it.lol 2)They are so dangerously sharp that you have to be well protected putting them on or off (they suck) 3) god forbid if you get anywere near it while working on the car . I was always very careful around them ,and never got bit,but they are for the real world (not racing full time ) just not worth there problems.

The stock fan was 18.2", so you need to get an 18" fan. If you get a 17", it won't work very well with the stock shroud.
