Sold my car....deciding on what to get. LONG
Ok guys...this isn't really a sad story, but I'll share it anyways. I am selling my car. I havent been on here in a while, but there are those who know the story, and those who have never heard of me. So I'll enlighten you on my baby. Last year I had a 89 Saleen, just like sky's, but black, and I converted it to a SC Saleen(graphics, and wheels)Well, it was totalled by a stupid woman that ran a red light. I know, it sucked. BUT a friend of my dad's told me about a 1990 Saleen GTSport. I had never heard of them, but I called Liz at Team Saleen, and the VIN checked out, and she told me the story about the GTSport. I bought it for $10,500 with ONLY 14K on it. I bought it, and sold it yesterday for $11,000. I DID swap out my Intake, Heads, TB, and cam, and my wheels. So I will have ample power with my new car. I found a 93 Cobra with 40K on it and it has gears, exhaust, and a different color of paint. It is kind of a mystic. It is a dark dark red, that changes to purple with sunlight. The guy assured me that it was never wrecked and has the paint labor invoice to prove it. He is asking $16K for it. Is this a good price? What I am wanting to do is, make it a one-of-a kind 1993 Saleen Cobra(installing a spoiler, and SC graphics) Simply because I have had 2 saleens, and Love Saleens and Cobras, and thought it would be cool to have a never made car. What do you guys think?

I say buy the Cobra, but leave it a Cobra! I wouldn't put Saleen anything on it! IMO, the Cobra wing is sweet. I like the Saleen and will probably have one on my GT, but if I had a Cobra I would leave the outside all stock, save for maybe putting on some chrome Cobra wheels.

Stay with the Cobra and don't do any body mods. The Fox Cobra's look much meanner then any of the fox body Saleens.

I wasn't planning on changing the ground effects or lights, bumpers...I just wanted to add the spoiler, and graphics....I can always swap back out the spoiler, and remove the graphics, don't you think?

No way I'd spend 16 grand on a Fox body. Especially if the Cobra wasn't original. For that kind of price it would have to be perfect. Then it'd become a collector type car for me, and I'd have to keep it orignal.
Bottom line, with some looking you could probably come up with a 96-97 Cobra for that kinda money. No offense, but the superior car for driving is clear in that comparo. I'd be much more willing to fork over that kind of cash on a new GT, pay a couple extra and finance it with a big time warranty on it. I say, no way! |

I agree with unit. I like the Fox's as much as the next guy, but i drove a 98 cobra from a chevy dealer and it was friggen amazing. And they were only asking about $15k for it. For that much $$ I'd go with a newer cobra. Light Em Up!!!

Well, I don't want a 96+. I like the fox body...I don't know why, mostly because the 5.0 is easy to work on, and cheap to modify. I kept my heads, intake, tb, and cam, and kept my new wheels. The car has a few trophies, and is a VERY clean car. It is all original, except for the paint. It was black, and he re-painted it to be kind of a mystic, so it would grab more attention. I want to either get a 93 Cobra, or another Saleen. The Whole Saleen Cobra thing was just an idea. I talked to the guy again, and he said he would go $14,000 cash, and with a guitar I was selling...not a bad deal??
BTW, I looked in the new Mustang Trader, and most Cobras are listed around $15,000 in mint condition. ------------------ Dustin 1990 Saleen GTSport #14 TFS Street Heat Upper & Lower(Black), TFS TW heads, TFS 3/8" Phenolic Spacer, E303 Cam, FMS 1.6 Roller Rockers, BBK 70mm TB, FMS 70mm MAF, MAC 1 5/8" Equals, Dynomax Super Turbo 2 1/2" cat back, Bassani 2 1/2" Off-Road X-Pipe, MSD 6AL Ignition w/ MSD TFI Coil, Home made Ram Air, Racecraft Suspension 60ft: 2.158 330ft: 5.396 660ft: 8.271 @ 91.43 [This message has been edited by SaleenGTS (edited 01-20-2001).] |

I'd look around dude, I've seen them recently as low as 12k.
It's up to you, if you are dead set on the Cobra, go for it. It's a nice car, but there is no way you'd catch me paying an additional 6k vs a mint GT. Also, you do know the Cobra already comes with Cobra intake, GT-40 iron heads, cobra cam, Cobra roller rockers, cobra computer, 24lb injectors, and a different calibrated MAF? First thing you need is a new MAF, and a different computer. Change those and throw some 3.55's in it and that Cobra will really wake up. |

Well, I think the cobras are nice, but not nearly as eye catching as the Saleens. If you buy the cobra you'll have a whole nother set of intakes and heads to get rid of. I don't see spending that much money on a fox car just for the cobra name. If it was me I'd search around for another cheaper car and use the little extra cash to buy some more mods.

On its way: Paxton Sn-89 with dyno tuning and long tubes. Just added: B&M Ripper, Weldin Subframes, & Turn downs! 13.2@106mph |

I'd go out & buy a clean 87-93 gt or lx for under $1000 & modify to fit your needs. you have the heads cam & intake, so you sould make your own saleen for the rest of the money you woyld save on the cobra.
Dont get me wrong, I love the 93 Cobras, but if you like saleens, why not buy a plain 5.0 & make a Saleen? Just my thoughts. |

Well, I'd have to say the Cobra is more than just a Fox car badged with the Cobra name.
It does have upgraded brakes, wheels and tires, suspension, engine, and drivetrain, plus a very nice appearance package. They are better than the other Fox's, even the Saleen's IMHO, but they are twice the cost too. If he already has extra mod parts, messing with the car just isn't worth it to me. |

Thanks for all of the input guys. I still have some time to think about what I want to do, and all of you all have given me some speculation and options. The 93 Cobra I was talking about was just a spur of the moment thing, but I am stang-less for the time being All I do know is that I want a rare car, and either another fox-saleen, or Cobra are the only two cars in my mind. Unit, even though you have been the most helpful to me on this topic, I'd have to disagree with ya on your pick of the Cobra over the Saleen...there is far more to the Saleen than there is to the Cobra, but that is what God invented opinions for Out
