Default trying to learn

i want to be able to work on my own car so im trying to learn things on my own. i need a new alternator but i cant take the old one off because i cant release the tension from the tensioner. im sure its simple and easy but im just learning so dont be too rough but any help would be awesome...thanks

on the tensioner is an arrow that show which way to lift to to release the tensioner. counterclockwise as your standing in front facing engine.


Where in florida are you??

I'm just going to elaborate on the last post... the tensioner has a HEX head bolt on it... get a ratchet.. or a wrench.. though the socket givesmove clearance... anyway... get it on there and pull it down counter clock wise... it helps to have someone pull the belt off while you take the tension off... then let it up slowly.. dont just let go... it's not hard or anything... you'll get it... it's simple enough.. the altenator is cake too.. just unplug it and unbolt it... it'd be a good idea to disconnect the negative battery cable while you're at it... just to be safe...
