steering rack noise
ok, in the last two weeks i have replaced my rack twice. first time because of normal break down, but the second time because of a weird noise comming from it. i can't really describe the noise, buts its something like a scarching squeeking sound. but it only occures when i am at a stop and durning the first initial jeark of the wheel. it doesn't matter if the wheel is straight, or if it is all the way turned to either the right or left. it still only makes the noise when first moving the wheel. what is this noise? i don't think it is normal, is it? well for a lowered car is it? or is it just bad luck with crappy remanufactored junk from autozone and i should just go to a different place to buy my parts? oh ya the new one i have put in is making the same noise.

I think your noise is coming from somehwere else. Check the bushing where your front control arm bolts up. Also where your spring sits.

Try greasing your tie rod ends (need a grease gun) or replacing them if they're old/worn out. Could be your ball joints also, but I don't think stock ones have a grease fitting so you'll have to find a way to check them manually.
Good luck, Rich D. |
