Question All right, I'm confused.

What is a "BOX" upper intake manifold? Anyone have any pics?

A box upper is an intake that is welded together out of sheet metal and instead of having the huge thing hanging over the drivers side valve cover it just has a box that the TB bolts onto and then 8 ports going to the lower. You're supposed to gain mega high end power with these I believe, is that right guys?

Check out this pic, and see if you get the picture.

I forget the name of the company that makes another. They make huge horsepower numbers in the high rpm's because of the short (non-existant) runners, which gets the air to the engine quicker, but also kills your low end torque. There is a big trade off. I would only get one if the car is a weekend warrior and is built for higher revving (6500++rpm).

I'm not wanting one, I just got a GT-40 recently. I was just curious because I think we'll be giving one away at our drag race this April =)

Are they pretty expensive?

What Quantum has pictured in his reply is a "sheet metal" intake which takes place of the upper & lower.

A box upper is a rectangular box (usually cast aluminum), with a small neck & flange for the throttle body in the middle of one side. It takes place of the upper intake only.

Most will go mount on a GT40 style lower or truck lower.

One example is a Down's Ford upper. Unfortuantely, I don't think that they have a picture of one on their website.

SisuStang - If you look closely the intake I pictured is a box upper. It does not replace the lower as well. It is sheet metal, but it is only the upper box intake. If it replaced the lower you would see the runners turn and go to each side to enter the head. Don't see where you got the idea it was upper and lower replacement.
