Post why is my car so slow...

i just went to the track for the first time this year. it was pretty nice, cool weather and stuff. i didnt hook up that great, but still. i ran 14.4-14.7 all at like 95.something. i know the times can change drastically by driver especially since i have a stick, but shouldnt my mph be higher?

I agree something is definatly wrong, and I think ive been saying this everytime you bring up this question.

Now we need to check the obvious things again.

What was the weather. What was the track altitude? FIND THIS OUT. Also what are you shift points, and do you shift hard and clean?

Whats your timing at? Are you sure your car is a real cobra? It sounds like its performing like a car with E7TE heads, with those mods 220rwhp sounds about right.

The cobra computer sucks, but I dont think its hurting you that much.

Also what kind of fuel are you running and when was the last time your car had a good tuneup. Maybe run some of that injector cleaner though the car. Fuel filter/air filter clean?

If you have an adjustable FPR what is it set to?

And lastly how does the car feel?

my k&n is a bit dirty, the weather was like 60 degrees a bit cloudy no rain or anything, the track is not that high, no more than like 2000, i could use a good tune up i am thinking about getting it dyno'd to see if that reveals anything. i was not hooking up good and my shifting could have been a bit better, it was ok, but not great. i tried shifting at like 57-5800, and 5300 or so both times were 14.5 and 14.4. but as far as i understand it most of the launch stuff will not greatly effect the mph, i know that even when i first went to the track and couldnt drive a stick well at all i was running 15.6 at 95 still.

With just full exhaust and pullies with 3.08s I ran a 14.18 @ 100.4 with a 2.3x 60ft, so your mph should definitely be higher.

Find out the exact track altitude. 2000feet is qutie a bit. Thats a few mph right there.

Find out the right alt, and then calculate it in.

Believe me altitude has everything to do with how well or how poor your car runs. I am at 4000ft and my car is a dog. I have to say I agree with Skyman about it sounding like you are running on E7TE heads. Because with my altitude adjustment I am running about what you are running. Not sure what to tell you on this one. Where do you live though?

If you have the E7TE heads then your car wouldn't be a real cobra... are you sure that it is a real cobra?

I don't know about this, but is there a way to use the VIN number to identify the car? Also, I take it you have the Cobra intake, all the badges, rear bumper cover, but how about your injectors? Do they have blue plastic tops where the harness plugs into them? I've never been under the hood of a 94-95 Cobra, so I'm kind of grasping at straws....LOL

I think there are also markings on the ends of the GT-40 heads that would be on your car if it indeed has them.

My car went 98 mph bone stock with only flowmaster mufflers. Something is definately up with you car or your driving. Next time your at the track, find some guy that's banging gears on street tires or Drag radials and running good, and ask him to take a hot lap in your car. Then you'll know the deal. Don't bother with the dyno, if it's making 22o at the tires, it should be more than 97 mph.

Reaplce your fuel filter if you haven't already and then go have the car dynoed at a dyno with an A/F meter. If the operator of your dyno is good he will be able to pinpoint the problem.

Let us know what happens.

Question

I'm assuming you ran it at Keystone? I run my car there (I was at ever test and tune this season so you may have seen me) and at Englishtown NJ, my mph at englishtown, which is near sea level, was about 0.8mph quicker than at Keystone if it helps.

Is this Dave from ASAP mustangs in Allison Park? If not, he has a 94 or 95 Cobra and he runs something like 14.2-14.3's at around 97-98mph and he has gears and exhaust though I can't remember what kind, and he runs out at Keystone regularly. His Cobra is black and has an ASAP sticker across the windshield. Where did you have your car dyno'd at? I had mine done at ASAP, and I dyno'd 188RWHP in 3rd gear, which is about 235RWHP in 4th, so I'm assuming you should have more RWHP than you have, as Dave had 199RWHP in 3rd gear if memory serves me right. What is your timing at? You don't want to shift any higher than 5300 at max with your car. Are you going to Keystone this thursday, I will be there and will be glad to try to help you out if I can. Send me an email at killercanary@hotmail.com

BTW- my 95 GT convert ran 14.5-14.6 at 94.89mph with just 3.73's, bassani offroad X pipe, 2 chamber flowmaster mufflers, 14* timing, and underdrive pulleys- my car also weighs in excess of 3700lbs with me and I did this at Keystone. Come to the track this thursday and we'll see what we can do to help you. Look for me in my yellow convert', I'll be there with my dad and his white 91GT and my cousin with his red Kenne Bell SC 94 GT.

Ok, now let'e see if I can get this right. If memory serves, the 10th digit in the VIN will be a "D" if your Cobra is genuine. Something defintely doesn't see right. I'm not saying you don't have a "real" Cobra, but what I am saying is I think you should be running a few tenths faster than you are. Are these passes made in extreme heat? Are you powershifting? My car has GT40 heads, E303 cam, Cobra intake, 4.10 gears, BBK shorties, off road H, and a Borla exhaust. The car has turned a best of 13.496 @ 102.86 mph. So basically I have the same mods as you, just more gear and cam, and less the mass air and injectors. Anyhow, check that VIN and let me know what it tells you.

My "8th" digit in the VIN is a "D" like yours. Call 1-800-FORD-SVT and they'll send you a certificate with the build number and birthdate of your car. As far as shops knowing anything...most of them wouldn't know a real cobra if it came up and bit them in the a$$. I'm sure it's real, but yes something is off with your times.
