Next Round of Mods?
I just purchased a 90 GT. This is my 1st Mustang. What is/are the next logical Mods to put on my car? Car has the following:
3.73 rear, Edlebrock Water Pump, Pulleys, Ported Edlebrock Intake, Edlebrock Aluminum Heads, Coated Long Tube Headers, Adjustable Clutch Cable, Flowmasters & X-Pipe. TIA! Jeff 90 GT |

Subframe Connectors would be a good idea. Sticky tires. Some suspension stuff for better launches. I would put a different cam in it but thats me. But you might want to ask some of the other guys here what they think would be the best cam for your setup. Roller rockers are easier on the valvetrain. An electric fan will give you a couple horses. I just wanted to give you some ideas. Most of these aren't very expnsive.

Thanks!
Thanks for your reply. I know the car has a cam, but wish I knew which one?? Suspension is an area I need to do some work on as it appears this car has very little. Thanks again!

I would say 24lb injectors would be good, you won't need more until you get above 400hp. Number one ought to be a good set of tires, I like the nitto drag radials. Suspension upgrades would be a good call, if you don't already have it. Upper and lower control arms, maybe springs, and shocks unless they are in good shape. It's nice to have alot of horsepower, but if you can't put it to the ground it's not very useful. Other options would be bigger better brakes and/or a new K member and A arms. The main question is where do you want to go with the car? Do you want a dedicated drag car, hot street/strip, or maybe a road racer. The best way to get good advice is to know what you want to do.

Check out www.turbomustangs.com. We have links to all of the turbo manufactures. Most of the companies provide good products, some just take a long time to get their kits to you. Turbo Technology has great customer service and you can get a kit within two weeks of placing your order. I have been very satisfied with my kit, and wouldn't change a thing. I use a C&L 76mm mass air, I think you can get one for about $180. I've used Southside traction bars in the past with great success, look into them. If you think you want a turbo, don't buy injectors until you have decided. With your setup already and the addition of a turbo, 36 or 42 lb injectors is the minimum I would look into. If you stay NA, 24 or 30lb will do fine. I didn't pay any attention before that you also had a turbo TA and GN. Very nice collection of cars. The guy that tunes for me specializes in those cars, so I've ridden in alot of both. My mustang is almost payed off and one of my friends has a GN that went 11.0's at Bowling Green with a junk transmission leaving at idle. He's driven it about 5 times in 3 years, just doesn't drive it anymore,so I'm thinking of buying it to add to my collection. I know someone will probably come on and say, why not buy a supercharger, you can get one within a few days. It's your decision and both are great, but you already know the potential of a turbo.

K member and A arms are basically the foundation of your front suspension. The K member is that big, heavy block of iron that runs under your oil pan and the A arms are connected to it, the A arms are what hold the bottom of your front springs. The K is a big heavy piece that can be replaced with a stronger lighter piece which can also allow you more access to the bottom of your engine, ie the oil pan.
As far as MAF sensors, the C&L 76mm sounds like a great piece, I just ordered mine last week, and you can get it calibrated to any size injectors you plan to go with. It's only $229 shipped to your door, that's with the meter and the tube from the meter to the tb, so it's a good price too. As far as control arms, I have the Factory 5's and have had no problem but there are dozens of brands and types, adjustable and non-adjustable, on the market that are very good too. The adjustable ones are nice because you can have more comfort on the street and dial 'em in for the track when you go there. Same for the shocks and struts, KYB, Koni and many others have basic setups or specific rates or adjustable settings. Depends on what you want. Figure that out and start doing searches on the boards and you'll get more than enough information to make the right decision for yourself. Good luck!

Great info. you shared with me-thanks!!! Let me do some research on what you suggested and I would like then to run some things by you... I go to BG every year since the start. I probably know your friend? If you get the GN, I can help you out a lot since I know many of the vendors personally. I am very busy now with work, I will be back in touch soon. I do no for sure I want a Turbo and do not mind the wait at all. I think Turbo's are the way to go and say that from experience, sorry no flames please Later, Jeff 90 GT 89 TTA 87 GN http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/1780/ |

Thanks very much too for your replies Told ya I was a newbie (To Stangs) LOL You and Chris have helped me out a lot and I need to apply the advice and do some research and learning. I am sure I will have some more questions in a few days... I do not know your friend Mitch. Who is the Turbo guy/shop that does your tuning? Do you have DFI or similar? I have DFI on my GN and a modified ECM on my TTA. Thanks again guys! Later, Jeff 90 GT 89 TTA 87 GN |

Mike Fulbright is the name of the guy that tunes for me. He used to do it full time, but kind of got burned out doing it and now only works a few days a week doing it. You wouldn't know Johnny, the guy that owns the GN I'm thinking of buying, he has only been to BG once. We they ran his car, Mike took it and ran it, Johnny couldn't go beacuse of work. I currently use no kind of engine management system, although I am looking into something. My car's in the shop now getting heads and a few other things. Email me privately, use the private messaging here, or just post, I'll help as much as I can. See Ya, James
