Default T5 Fluid Refill How to?

Can I pour ATF fluid through the shifter hole to fill the transmission Case? I just installed a new engine in my car yesterday and now the tranny is whinning in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. When I removed the engine last week, I notices alot a tranny fluid leaking from the rear of the trans where the driveshaft goes.

My shifter is already on the trans, so can I just pour fluid down the hole in the shifter?

There are two plugs on the side of the T% tranny the bottom one is to drain the fluid and the top one is to fill the fluid.

You can also fill the tranny where the shifter bolts to it but its not my preferred method.

I put 2 quarts of fluid in the trans and it's still whining from 1-3 gear, fourth gear is quiet, 5th whines alittle but not as loud as 1-3 gears. When I pulled the engine and trans together, it didn't look like all the fluid leaked out of the tranny, I looked on the ground and it looks to have leaked out maybe 1 quart. I didn't notice this whining noise until after I installed my new engine. Maybe the noise was there before I put the new engine in and I just never heard it because usually I drive with my music blasting loud.

Do you think my tranny is going bad?

Try running some synthetic tranny fluid.

Did you open the top bolt on the tranny and fill till some ran out? The top bolt hole is the correct fluid level on a level surface.

Same point I was going to bring up, if you filled it through the shifter you really have a poor judgement of how full the tranny actually is of fluid. Wal-Mart sells a hand pump with hose pretty cheap and with a floor jack you can get to the fill and drain plugs fairly easy. You know you need to use ATF even though it's a T-5 right? Go ahead and add about 1/4 a quart of gear oil too.

Thanks,

Which side are the 2 plugs on? Should I try and fill the trans from under the car or should I do this from on top under the hood?

Can't remember off the top of my head which side the plugs are located, but they are very noticable once you get under the car. Which brings us to your net question, once you raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands, this will have to be pumped from underneath the vehicle, a regular 3/8 rachet with a 3inch extension should work fine for removing the plug. Call me Mr Obvious but I wanted to point out the top plug is for filling and the lower plug is for draining. Might want to drain it and give it a full fluid change while your under there anyway. Good luck

Try it? That's all that is ever supposed to be used in those things. Something about the T5 and gears, it needed the ATF, Ford told me and so did the local speed shops, think I even read it in some articles.
