Engine Block
Quick, need some help!!!!!!!! I am about to get a 302 block to convert to a 347 stroker. Only prob is that I am not sure what year the casting numbers on the block show. I also need to know if it is a 72 like the guy says, can it be made to a 347 w/o a problem. I also am wondering what the thing is with having a roller cam vs not having one? Will a roller cam give more power then the alternative.

The numbers cast by the starter mounting location should start with D2 for a 72. D=70's, E=80's, F=90's. At least that is how I have always identified them. I had a 71 and it was a D1. You can make it a stroker(block has to be machined for it). Roller is better because of less friction, but is not mandatory. You can make your block accept roller parts with a roller conversion kit, and the proper roller parts, (cam, lifters, pushrods, etc).

One time i read a magazine saying that the block Made in Mexico is the best for 347, the iron is strong.
