Default nitrous oxide?

Ok, I have another engine I am putting together for the car, but since I just got the car on the road, I am not in a real hurry to put the new engine in. The 302 in the car now, is not really worth all that much as a short block, as it is a 75 block anyhow (dished psitons). So I got to thiking, I have always wanted to play with Nitrous a little bit, maybe just a 75 horse shot, which I plan on only hitting for grunge matches at the track.

Can anyone think of reasons not to put Nitrous on this motor? Any pointers if I do? Will the 75 horse shot give me that much better of an ETA (not known what it is right now) to justify the cost?
I can provide more specifics on the car...if they r needed.
thanks,
Ryan

If you've got forged internals in the block, or you also mentioned you're going to replace the motor.

A shoot of juice is always fun, and will lower your ET. For example, my son's 88GT runs 14s without juice and 13s with a shot of juice (best ET 13.5). Only problem we've had is juicing right off the line, spin city with tires.

We've changed our rear suspension a little and now have some slicks for the track - waiting to get back out and see where we are. Especially with the new AFR165s, Typoon upper/lower intake, and new cam.

I can't see a 75 shot doing any harm...go for it!

My notch runs 9.2 in the 1/8th on motor and runs 8.1 on a 150hp shot.

Default do it

I'd definitely do it. You could easily run a 75 or 100 shot on there. I run a 150 dry shot. It's a serious power boost, alright.

Well, I really want to put the 89 roller engine in the car...vs. my 75 block. For lots of reasons, mainly cause the E7te's were my first set of heads I ever ported/polished/gasket matched.

I do not want to fry the 75 in the middle of a race, but if I do.....I would have a new excuse to swap in the 89, which would only take a half a day if my buddy helps.

I realy want to do it, just not sure what all the engine will need. The pistons are cast, but what I am more concerned with is the mechanical fuel pump. Do I need to convert to an electric fuel pump so I can adjust the fuel pressure? How hard is it to jet the car properly? I have lots of experience with jetting dirt bikes (2-stroke)....but have done very little with jetting a holley 600.

thanks guys for any and all of ur help....figured this place was the best to learn about Nitrous.

Warning on the juice, you hit that button just ONCE, and you're hooked. It's worse than smoking crack. A REAL rush though!

I was spraying 125 to my car, 12.70 on motor, 11.81 on drugs. A real good time. Took the motor out of the car (NON NOS related problems, sucked a valve) and it was no worse for the wear. I was running stock 1987 pistons (TRW made them for Ford) and absolutely everything (except the valve! DOH!) looked great. I him-hawed about it for months, now that I see the inside of a motor after beating on it, I won't hesitate to spray ever again. Hell, I even want a 75 dry shot on my wife's mini van!!!

Jetting the carb is easy. DON'T SPRAY it until you get this right. Check the plugs, ALL the plugs. "Black Cotton" means too rich, go down 2 sizes on jets. Really white plugs, or blued metal means lean, go up on jets. Don't worry about jetting the nitrous, just follow the directions. Tune the car first, then spary it. Put a "T" in your fuel line after the pump (If it's a good aftermarket pump!) Make sure you got good fuel, take 2-4 degrees of base timing out, and go have a good time!!!

Well, from what everyone has said, I can see no reason not to spray this engine.

I am looking at buying the sniper sysetm by NOS, adjustable from 100-150. Probably spray it at 100 hp. This only brings more questions though. Approximately how much will it cost to refil a 10lb bottle? How long will that bottle last, if I only sprayed when running a quarter?

Jester-
installing the "t" kinda lost me. Was that referring to putting a fuel pressure gauge in the engine bay?
Thanks guys,
Ryan

The bottle refill should cost you in the neighborhood of 30-35 dollars. As goes for how long it should last is depending on the amount and if you use it right out of the whole. At 100 shot level expect 8-10 solid passes. 150 about 4-6 passes. You will not empty the bottle every time,it will just deminish the end result as you use it. Generally the first couple passes at that level will give the best results

I got on the NOS website, answered a lot of the beginner questions I had. Plans for now, will be too only spray in second and third. Have to wait til I get some street slicks to spray first gear....otherwise I will be wasting the spray.
Thanks,
Ryan

On your mechanical pump, you have an "in" and an "out" the in is from the tank, and the out goes to the carb. On the "out" side, throw in a "T" and run the extra side to your Nitrous. Hold on, and I hope you're ready for an addiction. It's like smoking Heroin. After you get that hit, you come back here and tell me I'm lying! You'll be hooked for life, but it's a good thing. You'll have some brotherhood (Just for starters, ME) along the way.

Nitrous is cool, but don't be like me, lol.

I missed 2nd gear last night and had a HUGE nitrous backfire. Oh well.......I never liked that intake valve anyway.

Now who wants to come help me take it apart?

Those look like some fine street cars to me.

Ryan, if you can make investment into the following saftey devices if you can.

NOS window switch:
Controls the time the nos... on & off in a predetermined rpm range no matter what.

Micro switch.
Attach to the carb or throotle so it will only activate the system at wide open throttle.

Multi-step retard.
besides the abilty to retard your timing at start up, it will simply retard your timing (controlled by a pill) for each stage of nitrous.

Fuel pressure cut-off switch.
obvious.

nitrous pressure guage, blow off hose
