AOD loose cable. What does it do?
'91 AOD. I pulled the trim ring off that goes around my gear selector and I saw a loose cable that comes straight out from the dash, slightly to the right of center of the gear selector, and ends at the gear selector. If I pull on the cable it seems to make sounds behind the steering wheel. Pulling it doesn't seem to do much. I thought it might prevent starting the engine in drive, but I tried that and it works OK. The cable is bare stranded wire, and has an end on it that looks like it should be connected to a mechanical holder, maybe inside the gear selector, but I haven't taken that apart yet. I can't find it in my manuals. Any ideas? Thanks!

That should prevent you from shifting from park until the brake is pushed.
