Default A couple of questions...

Ok, I am building my 302 for streetable performance. Then i am dumping it into my RX7 just because ive got nuthing else to put it into. Ok, here is a list of what i have already:

1)1991 "5.0L" 302
2)Edelbrock 600cfm performer series carb
3)Edelbrock Performer 302 intake manifold
4)MSD 6AL Ignition Box with Blaster HVC II Coil
5)MSD Ford Street Pro-Billet Distributor
6)Power Pullies

Now, i will eventually be porting my heads, but that wont be for a while. I was wondering, is the 600cfm carb a bit too much for my setup? Also, i want to have a mildly lumpy cam, what are my options for my setup? what brand of shorty headers should i go with? I have a mechanical fuel pump that is stock with the car, should i run an electric inline pump to help it along? If so, what pump would be my best bet?
Any help would be great.

Thanks, Tom

Hey Tom, you are talking about a Cougar right? You mention 91 5.0 are you taking a 302 out of the car? and if so are you using the front cover off the old engine if youre not the 91 has no fuel pump boss. Yeah the 600 will be just right. Go to eather Comp CAms or Cranes web site and they list a bunch a different cam to use then email them or call there tech guy and tell them everythig that you will be using and they will get you the best cam. As far as shorties, I have Macs and no problems others have had all kinds of problems with them, If your using stock heads you can use the factory stuff (they don't look good but they will get you by) or any number of the cheaper one Mac, BBK, Hedman. Oh and a stock fuel pump or carter , holley mechanical will be plenty.

Hey Tom I thought you had the letters backwards. Well as far as putting the engine in there Trans Dapt makes universal Ford windsor mounts and you'll have to wait and see what kind of clearance you have once the engine is in to see what headers may work. I did see a Miata with a 5.0 in it in one off the mustang mags a while back so anything is possible. I'd probably go with electric pump.

Default fuel pump

if there is no clearance problems... the mechanical will be cheaper and easier to get the setup going at first. Down the road, the electric would be better for future mods when the engine starts to require mor fuel. I would hold off on the headers until you see how the engine will fit in the car first.
