On that 393 you have "in process". You better go with a bigger head than the AFR 185. That head is good for a basic 5.0 let alone a 393 cid engine. You need at least the AFR 205 head ! If it is going to be a serious engine then the AFR 225 is the better bet. It takes a lot of head to support the cid of the 393.

Default info

thats the what I understand NOW, but I don't want a totally radical car I want to be able to drive 1,000 miles easily. So I was just trying to duplicate the 393 the mm&ff did when they put the 185's on the motorsport 392. since I purchased the heads I've seen alot of posts on this. Honestly at this point I'm getting alittle lost. the posts I've read also say my cam is too small. As for the intake, was planning on a trick flow but the posts I've been reading say that is too small also. So again I'm a little lost.
but thanks for the input

It is not that the 185's won't work, they will, and it just shows how pathetic the GT-40 Ford heads are on an engine with any substance. If it is a daily driver the heads will work fine, you are just leaving a lot of H.P. on the table by using them. The 205's will work equally well without sacrificing driveability, you will just make more power with them is all.

really want a high rpm motor 6,000-6500. I was thinking trickflow or a coast high set up using the victor jr.

According to AFR there heads work best with Edlebrock. Not sure if that is true or not.
