Default How much oil does an 83' take?

I am planning on changing my oil. I got the filter and I have been told that the car takes 8 quarts, then I was told 9 quarts, then I 12 quarts. I didn't want to go ahead with out checking. I am waiting on my owner's maual to arrive. Thanks for the help.

Red face

Fill the car up with oil until it starts to overflow out of the valve cover then it should be just fine. j/k

Dude, I'd advise you to stay clear of those people who told you to put all that oil in your car, b/c either they know nothing about cars or they are trying to make you screw up yours. What do they think you're running, a Greyhound bus?

5 qts. No more no less (whether V8 or V6). Use the Motorcraft FL-1A oil filter. Don't mess with Fram. Just stick with Motorcraft and you'll be fine.
