Default 3.27 or 3.55?

Which to go with? I have the stock 2.73s and I'd like a little more kick, but I'm still driving this car 60-70 miles a day, so gas mileage is a concern. I won't be drag racing (except when those imports try to pass me on the right), but as I make a few mods I plan to do some autocrossing. Is there a noticeable gas mileage or performance difference between the two? Thanks.

i went from 3.08 to 3.27, notice a very little difference in mileage or performance, but i didnt want 3.73 at the time, i like to cruise around 80 mph and stay under 2500, but on the strip id like some 3.55-4.10's.....oh well.

Scappoose, 5-speed or 4 speed? If you have a T5, go with the 3.55s.

Sorry. 5-speed. And for now, other than cold-air induction, bone stock.

go with the 3.55's and don't worry about your mileage dropping. I have 3.73's and i get 25 m.p.g at 70-75 m.p.h.

I have 3.27s. As said above, they're great for freeway crusiing at 80+. At the strip, you'll wish you had 3.55s or stronger. I guess it depends on how much time you'll be at the track. I'd make a selection based on where you'll be spending the most time...street or track.

Not too much occasion to go 80+, or even 70+. 70 is about max on I-5. Too many cops around Portland/Salem/Eugene. And they pull you over in a second. At least they do me.
3.55's sound like the way to go. Thanks for all the input.

3.73's are not too bad. I would go with them. You won't be dissapointed.

I've had every 8.8 gear from 4.30's down and i can tell you that 3.55's are the worst draggin gear, go with 3.73's

My 3.27 gear is not too bad at the track! 1.394 60', 10.324 et...

Really it depends on what you want to do and how you are set up. For your particular application I would stay with the 2.73. If you are not going race anybody from zero why change gears? From a roll the 2.73 will be just as good as a 3.73, maybe better depending on speed.

One concern is your clutch. It will last longer with a lower gear. Takes less slippage to get you moving the lower the gear. A 3.55 or even 3.73 would be a good street/track compromise if you planned to race at the track.

I have had 3.73's and the 3.55's in my car. For driving on the street, 3.55's are the way to go.

My 2.73 are just sooo tall, sometimes I have to downshift to 4th on the highway cus 5th is geared to about 250 mph at 6000 rpms.

3.73's will certianly hurt your highway mileage compared to the 2.73's no matter what the other guys say. For a mostly stock motor going higher than 3.55 with a T-5 may slow you down since the motor would run out of breath at the end of the 1/4 mile. If you have a intake swap this will greatly improve the high rpm breathing and make the 3.73 or 4.10 more usefull
