Question Summit 306 Kit ?????

Its time to rebuild my worn out short block and dont want to spend a but load an a D.S.S. short block so my thought is that I would rebuild myself using the Summit 306 Kit it comes w/ a cast Ford Racing crank, and Keith Black Hypereutectic pistons.
Q#1 will this crank be adequate for a under 100 hp. n.o.s. or low psi supercharger.
Q#2 wich pistons are better forged or hyper I have heard positive opinions on both.
also if you have any other opinions on other less exp. short block kits please let me know. just for info this would just be a street car with occasonal track time.

I kinda had the same question, i want a new block, but i want to keep forged pistons instead of hypernematic's.

o and i think it would be fine with nos.

Forged pistons are better for a blower or nos...

I agree; forged pistons are better for nitrous or boost.

That's not to say that hypereutectics won't hold up if set up right. Look what Lidio did with that stock 4.6 and a turbo....wasn't he in the 9's when the motor chunked? And wasn't it the rod that broke before the piston?

Hypereutectics are good because they are light weight and have less thermal expansion that forged pistons. Therfore you can run them to tighter tolerances. However, they can't take the same types of beatings that forged pistons can.

Bottom line...if you're going to go hyper, get a mechanic who has worked with the Keith Blacks before. Piston ring gap is critical when setting up hypereutectic pistons for different applications. If you set up the rings for N/A and run nitrous or a blower, you will blow the ring lands right off the pistons. Also, hypers do not hold up well to detonation. Make sure your car is in good tune so you don't pit the piston.

hyper is good but forged is alot more forgiving..forged will resist predetination and a lean condition alot better..hyper will shatter
