Default TFS kit on a 331

Im seriously considering doing this but I want to make sure everything will work good together, especially the cam.

The kit I am getting is just a basic Eagle 331, cast crank, forged I beam rods, forged SRP pistons. Compression ratio will be around 9:1 or 9:5.1 as this will be a DD.

I am planning on putting the TFS engine kit on it (street TW heads, street intake, stage 1 cam, timing chain, 1.6 RR's, etc)

Will this cam work with the 331 setup?
specs are

Duration @ .050 in. 221 intake/225 exhaust (degrees)
Cam Lift: .312 in./.319 in.
Valve Lift with 1.6 Rockers: 499 in./.510 in.
Lobe Separation: 112

Also could this setup pass smog with the stock catted h pipe?

The heads are great, I have the #1 cam in mine and it is very nice to drive on the street and pulls hard up top, although there are better (larger) choices for a stroker. I would go to a bigger intake than the Street as well. Can't speak to emissions...I don't have to worry about it where I am.

They offer a track heat kit from summit. Its the same as you wanna get, just with the track heat intake. Are you talkign about piston/valve clearance? Twisted Wedge heads are supposed to clear the pistons just fine. Do the ones you wanna get have valve reliefs? I have a 347 stroker with twisted wedge heads, a stage 2 cam and 1.6R's and its fine. Of ourse I do run dished pistons though so there's no way in hell they eould ever hit.

If your just wondering whether its a good performance choice for your combo, yes. Most people I talk to love the stage 1. Very streetable, good idle and a good power range.

I used the Trickflow track heat intake and it was great, my buddy uses the stage one cam and i like it. For a stroker i would go a bit larger to complement the motor. stage 2 is decent. The trick flow heads gets rave reviews from everyone who uses them.

One thing worth noting is the valve reliefs in SRP pistons are cut for inline valve heads, not TFS. The reliefs are NOT in the right location for TFS heads. You'd have to go to a Probe piston for that (only off the shelf 331 piston with TFS flycuts).

Thanks for the help guys.

I was mostly posting this to make sure everything in the combo would work together and still be streetable.

I may end up going to the track heat intake but we will see.

Thanks for the info on the pistons johnnyk. I will talk to my engine builder about that
