Question Rear End Tag

Ok I'm going to the wrecking yard next week. I'll be looking for a 8.8 rear end with 3.55 gears. There is a tag on the rear end, does anyone know what the code on the tag means? I'll be looking at f100 and f150 and anything eles that has a 8.8.

8.8 in trucks are much wide then ones in cars. I wouldn't go by the tag. Who's to say the person who owned the vehicle didn't change the gears. First thing you do is check to see if it is a posi, if isn't you can't check what gears it has in it whit out opening it. If it is have someone turn the axle one full rotation and count how many times the pinion turns. A little over three and a half would be 3.55:1, almost three and a quarter would be 3.73:1 ect...

Here's the info anyway.

F150's with a 8.8/3.55/LS have axle code H9, B9, or C9. You can check the VC Label inside the drivers side door jamb.

Everything else (RWD cars) will have a K for their axle code, if they have a 8.8/3.55/LS.

Take care,
ÅChris
