Header choice
I'm doing this for a friend. He recently purchased a new engine online dyno'd at 375 hp. He already has MAC shorty headers from before. I told him long tubes would be better, but he is kind of on a budget. How much hp could be gained from going from MAC shorties to 1 3/4" long tubes, or maybe 1 5/8" long tubes. He says if its only like 10 hp, he'll save his money and keep the shorties. And he's gonna be buying 3 chamber flowmasters, I told him 2 chambers sound really cool on my vette, but he says they're too loud. Oh well, to each their own, hehe.

Hey there i had the a set of shorty on my stang and i also got a new motor at about 500 hp and i put the shorty back on and had it dyno at 515 hp , i then put a set of hooker long tubes on it and went up to around 540, 545 the guy could not believe it. then i put on an offroad H pipe and 2 chamber flows and it put it up to 570. and that cost me around 900 dollors. see i guess it all depend on the parts he has on the car, they might make it different with different parts. but if i were him i would go for it and they are not to loud mine have a deep tone and when i get on it then it gets loud. but he will get more then 10 horse out of them.

Go for the long tubes, 1 5/8 if mostly street driven and does not see over 5,500 rpm very often, 1 3/4" for the serious car that sees the track more often and sees higher rpm more often than not. The MAC shorty's are BARELY adequate for stock heads. Have you ever looked into the header flange? Man that is a small port. Any aftermarket head will have a bigger exhaust port than what the MAC shorty has for a opening into the header. So the header is actually a restriction to the head. Deffinetly better than the stock headers, but not near as good as a true long tube.
