Question How do i reset my idle?

It doesn't surge or anything, it just idles high, around 1500. Would like to get it around 500-700 if possible. Thanks. Jonathan

try the feeler gauge method. back off throttle screw and take a .010 gauge between the screw and throttle plate. screw in until there is tension on the gauge and it pulls out with slight resistance. screw in 1.5 more turns and it should be set at factory position, 650 to 700. disconnect battery for 15 and then start car with all acc. off. let idle 5 minutes or so and shut down. turn all acc. on and restart. let idle for 5 minutes than go for a drive. should be done.
make sure to reset the tps after moving idle screw.
that should do it.

That sure sounds new to me.....

Or try this.

Disconnect the battery for at least 20 minutes.
Reconnect the battery, and unplug the IAC motor.
Start the engine. You may have to give it gas to maintain an idle. With the idle stop screw set the idle to 600 RPM.
Now adjust the TPS to read .95 volts.
Shut the car off.
Reconnect the IAC motor and start the car. Let it idle for 2 minutes with all accessories on. (heater/headlights/radio/etc..) Shut the car off for 2 minutes.
Idle the car again for 2 minutes with no accessories running.

All set. In the next day or so the computer will replace all the pre-set operating parameters with those of your driving style, etc....

im just curious,,,,, how is he going to give it gas and turn the idle screw at the same time???
by using the gauge method, you set it to the factory specs. (i forgot to tell you to undo the iab plug while doing this).
actually jimberg gave me this method and i have seen it discussed on here numerous times.
new to you, dont mean new to everyone. fyi.
or you can play with the idle screw until you get it right. your choice. set tps to .998 or .999 by the way.

It's not necessary to disconnect the IAB using the feeler gauge method since it's done with the car off. Disconnecting it is a good way, however, to test to see if the IAB is working. Doing the engine running EEC test is also a good way to check.

My car is definitely not stock and I have the dreaded E303 cam with 110 LSA but my car idles rock solid at 650-700 rpms (It's lopey because of the cam, but definitely not rough). I use the feeler gauge method to set it.

From what I've read, the IAB disconnection method is for the 4 cyl. I tried it, though, before I knew that and didn't work that great. Some people swear by it. You start the engine with it connected and then disconnect it when ready to set idle. Set the idle to 600 rpm using a digital tach on multimeter, not the dash tach. Reconnect the IAB and then reset the computer.

(Quin), do you ever go over by west broad street on saturday nights (HQ & K-mart) or go to any cruise-in's?
I also live in columbus(actually westerville)
and wondered if I'd ever seen your car around.
