Default distance & CFM

Is it any better to have the mass air further away from the Trottle body? I was thinking of puttng my mass air in the fender on a home-ade ram air setup. Also, At hard acceleration on the highway, how much CFM does the intake suck in? can it only suck in so much like what the upper intake is rated for? Im not talking about with a blower. thanks

I don't think distance is a problem, but putting the MAF in the fenderwell out of the heat of the engine bay is a good thing for sure. It will always be drawing cooler air than whats underneath the hood in the engine compartment. As far as how much air it will draw depends on so many factors...cam, intake, heads etc.... A ram air may help a little, I don't think it could hurt.

Your maximum CFM depends on the smallest restriction the air must pass through on it's way into the engine. If you have a stock MAF system, then your maximum CFM is around 580 because the MAF diameter is 55mm. The stock TB is 60mm, which means you can increase your CFM potential, and increase the intake air velocity, by installing a larger MAF. Ultimately, you want the MAF to be larger than the TB. A 65mm TB with a 70mm MAF can flow close to 650 CFM.

If you move your MAF just remember to put it in line(straight) rather than near a curve in the intake piping
