Default Fan moved back but is it enough? Pics included!!!!

I currently have a 3 core radiator and I was informed to move my fan back about 3/4". I took it off and put on the new bolts with spacers. It hits the compressor when 2 3/8" nuts are in between the fan. I then took one out and just used on 3/8" nut as a spacer. It fits ok and its about as close as I can go without the fan hitting on the compressor. The fan is coming out of the shroud more so than it was. If I stand beside the car, behind the fan it will blow my hair. I am not sure if it is out far enough though. The top of my shroud comes out more than the sides. On the top it comes out some but not near halfway. At most a 1/2". On the sides it comes out more. The radiator is up as far as it can go also. Is this ok or should I try to take some off of the shroud to compensate for this? Thanks for the help. I have an 83'.

Depending on the car i dontt hink i would go electric. At least not if its a street car that see's alot of daily use. I just swapped back from a 16" electric to a 18" flex fan and it made a HUGE difference. My car barely gets past where the thermostat opens. But i know for my car (82 GT) i just got a 1 inch fan spacer for it and that works great.

Thanks for the info. So the stock fan works much better than an electric? What made the electric not work well. I have my fan back as far as I can get it. I spaced it back as far as possible and it still gets a little warmer than I would like. What do you think I should try next? Take the shroud out? Trim the shroud to where the fan sits halfway out? I am out almost 1/4 of an inch right now. What size is the stock fan? Is your fan larger? Thanks for the help.

The perfect fit is a fan that has less than a half inch of clearance between the blade tip and the shroud, and set up so that the fan sits exactly half in the shroud, and half out. If this doesn't work, get rid of the clutch, or buy a flex fan.
