Default What's wrong with my setup?

I race a guy yesterday that had a 331 stroker with stock heads and stock intake w/ 60mm throttle body. He even had the a/c compressor still installed with a Automatic trans. I also noticed that his mass air meter was bigger than mine, and he had 30lb injectors.

When I ran him, he kept pulling away from me each time. What's up with my setup, the guy had said that with the mods I have on my car, I should be running faster that what I am.

My setup is listed below, I also have 19lb injectors and 373 gears.

Should I be running 24 or 30lb injectors?

well he has a stroker over you for one, your car's set up is still pretty much stock. with those heads. 19lb injectors are good up to 300rhwp so you are okay with those. Is your clutch slipping? What is your timing set up at?

My clutch isn't slipping, it pulls very strong. I don't know what my timing is set at exactly, I'll check it this evening. When I set it at 10 degrees, the car runs slower, meaning it takes long to go through each gear at full throttle. So lately I've been setting the timing by ear, and then taking the car out for a test drive.

Also I have a opportunity to buy some brand new GT-40p heads for 360. Should I buy them? I already got a good deal on some GT-40p headers so I bought them awhile back.

new or used? call central coast mustang and see how much they sell their GT40P's ask for dave 661-823-2400. I think they come with new valves and valve train at a pretty decent price. Those heads will be better than the ones you have now. Also there is the thumper heads, which are hogged out stock heads.

You should never set your timing by ear. It can be very taxing on your engine. Also, as stated above, your engine is still pretty much stock with a few bolt ons. If I had a 331 stroker and you beat me, I would drive straight to the SOB that built my motor and slap him. I would be willing to bet that the heads are bare, for that price. They would be an improvement over what you have, but I hear the gt40p heads are a pain. You need special headers to get to the plugs.

Have you ever run it in the 1/4" If so, what does it run?

Default hmm

30Lb injectors with just a 331 block, and stock intakes!!! thats not right, i wouldnt even run 24's with that setup. Maybe hes spraying!
From a 306 block to 347 block the gain is only like 30HP, with the same bolt-ons. Your car ahould be around the same as his. Put your timing at 14 like Glenn95GT said. Make sure the distrib plug is out! and use a Light! lol
The GT40P's will help out greatly.

I used a timing light yesterday and set my timing to 12 degrees. I runs much better now, just driving around the city, I haven't had a chance to give it full throttle yet since I changed the timing. I let you all know what happens. I'll also try it at 14 degrees as well.

Also when I first checked my timing with the timing light, my timing was set at 20 degrees, lol.

I only run the 1/4 mile once a few weeks ago for the first time, and I ran a 15.27, this was the same day I blew my head gasket. The car was overheating when I finished the 1/4 mile run.

Also my 60 ft was 2.375, when I launched I guess I came of the clutch too soon and the engine almost stalled. I think that had alot to do with my slow 1/4 time.

I haven't had a chance to run the car at the track since I rebuild the E7's and Explorer intake/65mm throttle body install.

A 331 with stock heads and stock intake? Are you sure?

Sounds a little strange to me.

That's what he told me. He said that he's getting some Trickflow heads reworked by some machine shop, so in the mean time he's running the E7's.
