Default It's Alive

The 331 shortblock has been installed. It has the stock GT-40 heads(valve job, surfaced, light porting on exhaust ports) E-cam, Flowtechs, OR H, Flows, and all of the rest is the stock stuff switched over. Sounds decent and the j4j1 seems to have learned the cam as there are no idle problems.

I plan on doing the following when I can afford it.

1. Dyno Tune & Chip
2. TB
3. Pro-M Mass Air Meter
4. Porting stock Cobra upper and lower.

It seems to run good now but it's running so rich it would kill you if you stood behind it. The heads will be the botleneck but I cant afford new ones. Cant wait until the engine is broken in and it can be sampled.

You're gonna be REALLY happy with that engine. It'll just plain scream. We're running a 333" (331 that has a 4.040" bore instead of a 4.030") in one car, and it just rips! Awesome motors those 331's are!

Good luck, and let us know!

I look very forward to sampling it very soon. It's hard to see how much improvement it has over stock right now. But I'am hoping the GT-40 heads are not holding it back to much.

The GT40 heads will only limit upper rpm potential - the car should have great torque and be an excellent street engine. You doing the porting? Ever done it before? I have a basic guide at the website in my signature. I don't think you need to port the upper - just the lower & run a 65-70mm TB.

No I will not port it myself. I have dabled on some old E-7's and have planned to maybe ship it off to you in late summer. I still have a PM from you when I posted this combo on here a month or two ago before it was put together and will be saving it.

I really enjoyed the site very much it's very well put together and informative. You did a great job on it.

Thanks for the reply's on the post. I hope it will be a big improvement over stock.

I wish I could take credit for the site, but it was actually set up by Darren Neese - he's a consultant and can do that for anyone (links on the bottom of the site pages). He did do a very good job on it. Thanks for the compliments.

Awesome, still waiting for my break-in to be over too, unfortunately have to tear it down again. Funny, we've both got 331's and 4X4's...I've got 33X12.50's too. Good luck with the new engine.

Man that sucks that you have to tear it down again, hard enough waiting for it once.

I've got about 280 miles on mine now and it's supposed to rain here for the next five days. So it looks like another week or two before I will find out how the 331 does. Well atleast the truck might yield a little fun on some wet low maintenance roads to tide me over.

Good luck with your engine and enjoy.

Thanks for serving the USA
