Post Who is trying to use BFG Drag radials?

Ok, I have a problem. My car has an Eibach pro kit and it's really low. I am running 225/50/15 which are 24" tall. I dont have enough room for a 26" tire with my wheel spacing. I had to roll the quarterpanel lip to get these to keep from scrubing over humps. I guess my ? is how good do the BFG Drag Radials do? You can see my mods in the sig. I am around the 420hp mark. How am I going to get some hook?

Thanx,
The Violent1

I've got 'em. Lowered car also but 255/50-16's. Only been to track once. Didn't hook as good as I'd like. 2.127 was my best 60'. My friend had them on his camaro last year and said he never got them to hook well till he did a massive burnout. Everyone says heating them up doesn't help but he swears by it. I haven't perfected my burnout procedure yet so I never really got mine heated up.

Going back this saturday to see what if I can improve any.

I do believe part of the problem is the lowered springs won't allow the car to squat in the back as well, nor will the front lift as well. Just my opinion though, nothing really to back it up. Maybe 90/10s would help.

Lowering springs are not a good choice for drag racing, as they do not allow front to rear weight transfer. If you want to keep those springs, you may consider adjustable shocks & struts, that can be turned down at the strip to allow more weight transfer. Also, at the dragstrip, you could loosen the front sway bar. That would allow some transfer of weight.

As for the Drag Radials, BFGoodrich says they only need a slight burnout, but they seem to work better when I do a long burnout and get them hot. I drive on the street with 28-30psi in them, then drop them to around 12-15psi at the track.

420 hp from a mild 302? I think you might be in for a suprise at a dyno.

I run 275/60/15 drag radials and I can still blaze them pretty easily if I try, so unless you have a lot of drag suspension parts smaller 225 drag radials will not deliver what you want. A 26x9x15 slick would get ya!

I think I may try to put my factory springs back under the rear just for the track. I'd really like a good front and rear setup from Hal but maybe next year. Oh and BTW, the guys at AFR say that dyno test on engines of very very similar mods are in the 400-450 hp range. It's all in the heads. You don't need a huge cam to make horsepower when you have good flow. Most aftermarket companies lie Holley and Edelbrock have packages making about 320-350 hp. Have you checked those flow numbers? In comparison to stock they are great but when trying to compare to AFR they suck. AFR has great flow but they don't sacrafice VE, that's why the work so well even with a mild level 5 cam like mine.

Violent
