Best Gears for my N/A 331???
I've got 3.55's in my car now with the new 331 and I hit the traps at the top of 3rd gear going 107mph with 27" ET street's. I've got an e-cam, ported heads and intake, and all the other good stuff. Am I gonna gain anything by going to a 3.73 or 4.10 gear in MPH or ET??? Or should I just go back to my 26" ET drags and shift into 4th gear anyway like I would have to with a 3.73 or 4.10 gear. Ideas??? The whole reason I went with the 27" tires in the first place is so I would have one less shift to make in the 1/4, because it was reved out with the 26" tires.

Go with 3.73 or 4.10 gears you will have one extra shift to make but you will be in the sweet spot of your powerband for more of the run.

4.30's! "Don't Fear The Gear!" You can handle more gear than you think you can, trust me. I'm actually yanking my 4.30's and going with 4.56's DRIVING to the track!
If you have a handbox, you can easily handle 4.30's IMHO What kinda RPM were you at? Them stroker motors like getting STROKED! Hell, I leave at 6K and shift at 7,500 with my 347. Good valve springs? Good valve train? If so, WIND HER UP! She'll like it!!!!!

Definately don't fear the gear! How about a 5:13 gear with a 30" tall tire. Pulls the wheels nicely with a 4,000 rpm clutch drop!

I'm running the 4.10 with my 331, no complaints here.

Re: Best Gears for my N/A 331???
Try the 4.10, if that ain't enough you can always go to 4.3 or 4.56. Too much? drop back to 3.73.
NO BS, I have 4.3's in her right now, "factory" gear ratios in a TKO with a 28" tire, and I'm putting in 4.56's!!!! I'd go 4.3 from the get go. Trust me..... One of my top 5 favorite sayings in this "business": "DON'T FEAR THE GEAR!"
