Default H.O. cam

I just want to make sure on the cam, that you can use flat tappet lifters on an HO camshaft. The reason I'm asking is a guy I work with has a '85 Fairmont 302 with curiously, a 3 speed manual tranny. He's buying a set of rebuilt E6 heads and a carter carb. I have a a couple '90 Mustang cams and was sure you can run the cam with flat tappets but not the other way around. Am I right? I have never done that myself.

What happened to the forums on this site? I remember when the forums were blazing busy here.
